Who wouldn’t like to burn a staggering 1000 calories in a workout? That’s the promise with the new MX1000 workout from personal trainer to the stars, Matt Roberts. Is there a catch? Only if you mind taking part in 2.5 exhilarating hours of exercise. Here’s what you need to know:

MX1000: The Lowdown

MX1000 is designed to get the very best out of you and your Saturday morning. A total body conditioning programme consisting of dynamic mobility, HIIT, running and drills, strength training, and core training.

MX1000: The Class

Thirty of us took the ear-popping lifts and transparent stairs to the launch of the class high above the spectacular London skyline, on the top floors of the iconic Shard building. After a short welcome and stretch with Matt we were split into three groups, ready to burn those first calories. This workout is split into three sections: Strength, Core and Running. Under the motivating guidance of trainer Shea, the burn started and sweat poured during the fast-paced alternating rounds of the Strength section of squats, burpees, push-ups, TRX and lunges.

From there we hit the stairs to the pinnacle of the Shard and the outdoor running track under the watchful eye of running expert Omar. With a partner, it was sprint laps around the track while the other did planks, push-ups and holding squats.  10 laps can feel like an eternity when you’re holding a plank but there’s no rest for the MX gang as you’re straight into the core section with Katie downstairs against a backdrop of awe inspiring views over the Thames.

It was straight into 30 sec ab burning bursts of lunges, pelvic lifts, planks and flutter kicks with little rest between sets. Several rounds later to a collective sigh of relief we cooled down with a long stretch from Matt. 1000 calories burned? That depends on how hard you want to work. If you want to improve your overall fitness, strength and endurance, this class ticks all the calorie-burning boxes. I was sore (in a good way) for days after.
