Urban cidermakers, Hawkes, is making a stand against apple wastage – and the team are asking you for help.

On Thursday 13th August, Hawkes Cider will be throwing away 5,000 pints of cider from their Cidery in Bermondsey to highlight, and bring to an end, apple wastage in the UK. To ensure it doesn’t all go to waste, Hawkes is challenging you (and the rest of London) to save the cider, by heading down, grabbing a glass and filling it up for free.

Hawkes’ Apple Drive: The Lowdown

Alongside the free cider giveaway, Hawkes has also introduced new mail-in boxes for apple donations. If you can’t make it down to Bermondsey on Thursday, simply order a box and fill it with up to 10kg of apples.

From 2019’s apple drive, Hawkes created a cider, called THIS IS LONDON, which launches later this week.  In order to understand the real terroir of London Apples, Hawkes fermented all the London apples together to create a cider made of 100% donated London apples.

Available in UK bars and online, 100% of the profits are donated to Social Orchards Urban Planting.  The charity recognises the benefits that an orchard can bring to a community and is dedicated to the aim – to ensure every household in the UK’s town and cities be within walking distance of a productive, well-cared-for, community-run orchard.

2pm to 8pm on Thursday 13th August 2020, Hawkes Cidery and Taproom, 86-92 Druid St, SE1 2HQ
