About Time: You Discovered The Umbrella Project’s New Tasting MasterclassesBy Angelica Malin
Get ready to discover London’s largest whisky collection at The Umbrella Project. The bar is a new venture from the team behind The Sun Tavern and Discount Suit Company (two very good East London bars). With over 300 bottles of Irish whiskey, it only feels right that The Umbrella Project is now running a series of two-hour Irish whiskey tastings every Saturday.
From Saturday 10th September there will be a session every Saturday at 2pm which can be booked individually or privately for a group. You’ll be welcomed with a whiskey cocktail on arrival to showcase the versatility of the spirit and throughout the session you will have the opportunity to sample The Hanson by JJ Corry, Redbreast 15, Bushmills 16, Teeling Umbrella Ginger Beer Finished, Hook Head by Waterford, and Killowen Poitín, to showcase each style of Irish whiskey, sourced from the best distilleries across Ireland. Snacks will be supplied by neighbouring deli Provisions to accompany the tasting.
The knowledgeable bartenders will take everyone through the traditions of Irish distilling; from triple distilled Single Malts to Single Pot Still whiskeys and the rich histories that shaped these spirits. Once a whiskey-making powerhouse exporting to every corner of the globe and even outselling Scottish whisky in Scotland, the history of Irish whiskey is compelling and full of intrigue. From boom to bust, the industry suffered and was reduced to just two distilleries in the 80’s. Now showing a strong resurgence, there is no better time to learn about Irish whiskey distilling.
Each session is priced at £65 per person and can be booked via the link here.
