5 of the Best: Ways to Celebrate London Sake WeekBy Angelica Malin
It’s about time: you celebrated the first ever London Sake Week (22nd February-2nd March 2019). To mark the one-off week, restaurants throughout London are putting on special menus, pairings and complimentary drinks, so you can taste the best sake around. To get involved, gou can see the full list of offerings right here. Here’s our pick of 5 top ways to celebrate in London:
The Lowdown: Yen is an incredible fine dining Japanese restaurant, located just off the Strand. As well as exquisite food, it also plays host to an extensive sake list, plus Japanese-inspired cocktails. Try the delicious sake infused Bloody Tokyo Mary, created using Honjozo sake.
The Food: Incredible sushi, sashimi, hand rolls and more. Try the Assorted Selection of Omakase Nigiri – it’s mind-blowing – and the Hamachi Yellowtail Roll With Myoga Ginger and Sesame.
Where: 190 Strand, 5 Arundel St, London WC2R 3DX
The Lowdown: Cult-favourite BAO is serving up a special treat for London Sake Week, with a complimentary 50ml measure of Konishi Gold and curated selection of paired dishes. Get involved and discover the richness, craftsmanship and unique qualities of Japan’s famed rice-based tipple.
The Food: Try the BAO Soho, with a Daikon BAO filled with Scallop & Yellow Bean Garlic. There’s also the BAO Fitz, with a Daikon BAO with Grilled Oyster. Delicious.

The Lowdown: Cheese and sake, who would have thought it? Apparently, it’s a great combo – and La Fromagerie wants you to try it. They’re offering up a complimentary glass of sake with certain dishes for London Sake Week, and there’s a sake and cheese workshop happening on the 28th February.
The Food: The food at La Fromagerie is a cheese lover’s dream. I personally love their brunch; think ultimate cheese toasties, cheese boards and cheese fondue to bring in the weekend in style. Note: don’t bring your lactose-intolerant friends.

The Lowdown: The Four Seasons Hotel’s Japanese and Cantonese restaurant, Mei Ume, in Trinity Square has some special activity planned for London Sake Week. Throughout the week, their knowledgeable bartenders and sommeliers will be teaching guests about sake and suggesting the perfect tipple for their meals.
The Food: Why not go all out with their Signature Tasting menu? Featuring 6-courses of deliciousness, including Yellowtail Carpaccio with Truffle Ponzu Dressing, Wasabi King Prawns and Chocolate Moelleux with Matcha Ice Cream. Dreamy.

The Lowdown: Sushisamba, one of our favourite Japanese, Peruvian and Brazilian fusion restaurants, is extending their bar’s sake offerings for London Sake Week. There’s no finer place to sip sake than their sky-high restaurant at the Heron Tower.
The Food: Expect incredible seafood and sushi dishes, plus sample some unusual aged sakes to compliment the inspired food. They’ve also got a vegan menu, with the likes of robata grilled aubergine, carrot and asparagus ceviche and veggie maki. Dreamy.
