Attend This: Toklas Bakery x Another Pantry Christmas Maker’s MarketBy Iona Goulder
One of London’s favourite bakeries, Toklas Bakery, will play host to cult pop-up Another Pantry, for a one-day-only Christmas event on Sunday 9th December.
Bringing together independent makers, chefs and suppliers from across London and beyond, the market will be a chance for keen foodies and Christmas shoppers to find unique and artisanal gifts curated by Another Pantry’s Safia Shakarchi, and enjoy festive bakes from Toklas’ Head Baker Janine Edwards and team.
The Toklas Bakery team have been busy preparing a number of sweet and savoury specials across the day to enjoy to eat-in or takeaway. Think warming Festive toasties made from thick slices of Toklas sourdough filled with Montgomery cheddar, Ogleshield, and a Spiced squash chutney. The Bakery’s own Mince pies packed with rare Todolí citrus will, of course, be available in bounties – to eat warm with custard or to enjoy at home – with Mulled wine served throughout the day.
Producer highlights from the market will include Pump Street Chocolate’s Winter Collection Series – bars of Maple pecan, Panettone and Gingerbread from the Suffolk-based chocolatier, alongside their beloved Father Christmas figurines; East London favourites Happy Endings’ festive special ice cream sandwich Ello’ Treacle, with Brown butter shortbread, treacle tart and lemon dulce de leche; Mainly Breakfast’s illustrated Seasonal Eating Calendar; wines from Shoreditch’s Passione Vino; and hand-forged knives from Allday Goods.
Alongside the producer’s market, a programme of events and workshops will take place throughout the day. Designed for children, but to be enjoyed by adults too, Toklas Baker Saffron will lead a ticketed Gingerbread House workshop for an intimate group. Later into the day, authors Tara Wigley (How to butter toast), Phil Khoury (A New Way to Bake) and Bre Graham (Table for Two) will be on hand to sign and sell copies of their most recent works.
