American barbecue is having a moment in London, and this September it arrives with the real thing. From 4th September, for one month only, Electric Bar & Diner at The Ned will swap its usual menu for pit-smoked Texan barbecue, as two of Austin’s most decorated pitmasters cross the Atlantic for a residency built on serious credentials: John Bates of InterStellar BBQ and Ali Clem of la Barbecue are among the only Michelin-starred barbecue chefs in the world, and good news, Londoners, you’re invited to the BBQ love-in.

The Lowdown

For a limited time, experience the very best of Texas’ renowned barbecue culture, with award-winning pitmasters from both restaurants serving a menu that showcases the craftsmanship, provenance, patience and bold flavours that have made Austin one of the world’s most exciting food destinations.

What to Eat

The centrepiece is a sharing tray created exclusively for the residency, pulling together signature dishes from both kitchens. Get ready for peach tea-glazed pork belly, pulled lamb shoulder, chimichurri beef short rib, pork ribs, and a chopped cheese sausage, served alongside Texas toast, la Barbecue’s queso shells and cheese, InterStellar’s beans and a beetroot salad. Fancy more barbecue for your British buck? Add on the USDA prime brisket, sourced from Creekstone Farm and something of a cult item in its own right. To finish, there’s InterStellar’s banana pudding with Jack Daniel’s caramel. Hot damn.

What to Drink

To complement the menu, Jack Daniels has created a bespoke cocktail list inspired by the spirit of Tennessee and the bold flavours of the American South, pairing classic whiskey serves with contemporary twists. Pickle Backs will make a return, the ‘Texan Sun’ which is an Old Fashioned twist with corn and honey. There will be a new Hard Shake with Jack Daniels Bonded, banana and raisin and a cocktail with Jack Daniels old No7, oolong, apricot and white chocolate.
