Picture this: platters of roast turkey, sweet potatoes topped with toasted marshmallows and wedges of pumpkin pie. Yes, we’re talking about Thanksgiving, that quintessentially American tradition that has found its way into the hearts (and stomachs) of Londoners. The capital knows how to throw a good ol’ American feast. Here’s our favourite menus from some of the capital’s best-loved restaurants:

1. For a Classy Affair: The Beaumont

What: On 23rd November, The Beaumont – in the heart of Mayfair – will serve a transatlantic-inspired Thanksgiving menu in the hotel’s art deco restaurant, The Colony Grill Room.

The Menu: Head Chef Ben Boeynaems has curated the celebratory menu (£85pp) to pay homage to the American holiday, served in the glamorous dining room with a 1920s feel and striking large-scale murals and maximalist artworks. Boeynaems’s Thanksgiving menu will begin with Parkerhouse Rolls with cultured butter; Cured sea bass with sweetcorn, lime and ginger and Pumpkin risotto with smoked ricotta and toasted hazelnuts, followed by a sharing Thanksgiving Turkey traditionally garnished for main. To finish: traditional Pumpkin pie with spiced coffee ice cream. A vegetarian menu will also be available with Cured sand carrot with sweetcorn, lime and ginger and Thanksgiving nut roast.

2. For a Five-Course Feast: Ham Yard

What: For a contemporary twist on Thanksgiving, modern European restaurant Ham Yard in the West End is putting on a five-course feast (£65 per person).

The Menu: Start with The Grateful Dove cocktail – a Bourbon Spritz with grapefruit, cranberry juice and rosemary and pomelo tonic – before diving into the Parker House rolls and jalapeño cornbread with dips such as Roast turkey gravy butter and Blue cheese and chive fondue. All mains, like the Dandy braised short ribs with molasses and onion rings come with an impressive spread of sides including Wedge salad, blue cheese and buttermilk dressing. Desserts include New Orleans-style beignets with bourbon butterscotch.

3. For a Sharing Menu: The Pem

What: Award-winning Chef Sally Abé is bringing back her hugely popular Thanksgiving feast at The Pem on 23rd November (£95 per person).

The Menu: The menu includes a selection of American-British showstoppers, starting with a selection of canapés, and moving on to Buttermilk and jalapeño cornbread with maple syrup butterBack by popular demand, the main event will be the Maple roast Cumbrian turkey for the table to share, served with all the trimmings, including Duck fat hasselback potatoes and herb stuffing. No Thanksgiving meal is complete without pumpkin and pecan pie, and Sally has covered both bases with Pumpkin pie ice-cream with shortbread and hazelnut followed by a delicious Pecan tartlet.

4. For a Thanksgiving Event: Carousel x Hang Fire

What: Carousel will be hosting the award-winning soul food duo Sam Evans and Shauna Guinn from Hang Fire for a southern-style feast, for just one night only (23rd November).

The Menu: For all those like me who are obsessed with Thanksgiving cuisine, guests can expect classics like Smoked turkey, Green bean casserole, Pecan pie, Sweet potato pie, Cornbread and something called Mashed ’taters to die for’ which sounds pretty spectacular.

5. For a Luxury Dinner: The Stafford London

What: The Stafford London’s American Bar is one of the longest surviving American bars in London and offers a lavish Thanksgiving feast in the five-star hotel’s American Bar and The Game Bird restaurant.

The Menu: The three-course menu  (£70 pp) starts with Butternut squash velouté, sour cream and chive rye bread crouton. This is followed by Maple-glazed Kellybronze turkey with garlic mash, sage and onion stuffing, green bean casserole and roasted pumpkin. Finishing off with, Chocolate pecan pie with mocha ice cream.

6. For a Classic Thanksgiving Dinner: The Clifton

What: Located in St John’s Wood, The Clifton pub is bringing back its annual Thanksgiving ‘Host your Roast’ on Thursday 23rd November.

The Menu: The Clifton has devised a menu (£48pp), that is perfect for sharing amongst family and friends. The roasts available include a honey-glazed Blythburgh Ham and free-range roast turkey, boned and rolled accompanied by an assortment of typical Thanksgiving sides such as stewed collard greens, creamed corn, green bean casserole, sweet potato and toasted marshmallow, maple glazed roots and cranberry sauce and gravy. To finish off the celebratory feast, a delectable choice of homemade pumpkin pie and Mississippi  mud truffles will be on offer

7. For a Set Menu: Booking Office 1869

What: Booking Office 1869 at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel will be commemorating Thanksgiving on November 23rd with a bespoke set menu (£60 per person).

The Menu: Dine on a starter of sweet potato soup with hazelnut butter and a traditional rolled and glazed turkey breast, accompanied by chestnut stuffing, roasted potatoes, carrots and pointed cabbage, finished with a thyme jus before a dessert of pumpkin pie with vanilla Chantilly. A selection of British cheese is available to share for a £14 supplement.

8. For Classic Dishes: Christopher’s 

What: Christopher’s restaurant, the classic American steakhouse and grill, is offering a Thanksgiving set menu. On 23rd November, the 3 course menu (priced at £80 per person) showcases all of the classics, accompanied by a few bespoke innovative specials.

The Menu: Starters include roast sweetcorn chowder and seared blackened shrimps with black bean cream, corn cake and salsa cruda before main course options such as slow-cooked ballotine of organic turkey with cornbread, Michigan cherry chestnut stuffing, cranberry relish, buttered beans and creamed potatoes and grilled prime USDA rib-eye steak (£15 supplement) with parmesan creamed corn, steak mushrooms, horseradish sauce and chimichurri sauce. For the sweet-toothed, desserts of pumpkin pie with whipped bourbon chantilly, caramelised apple and cinnamon pudding, and warm chocolate fudge complete the menu.

9. For a Traditional Menu: Great Scotland Yard Hotel

What: On 23rd November from 6-9pm, Great Scotland Yard Hotel will be hosting a traditional Thanksgiving feast where indulgence knows no bounds.

The Menu: The three-course menu (£75 per person) includes Devon crab sweet potato and orange velouté with cornbread, Roast turkey, confit root vegetables and cranberry sauce and Pumpkin pie. Guests will also kickstart their evening with a specially crafted Thanksgiving cocktail.

10. For a ‘Wild’ Thanksgiving: The Gladwin Brothers

What: Enjoy a ‘local and wild’ Thanksgiving this year! The Gladwin Brothers are celebrating with a specially curated farm-to-fork three-course menu (£42 pp) across all five of their London neighbourhood locations.

The Menu: To start, tuck into sweetcorn and brown crab chowder paired with Gladwin chorizo and flaked almonds before indulging in a Yorkshire turkey parmo with hispi cabbage coleslaw. Those with a sweet tooth can also enjoy a seasonal classic pumpkin tart with créme fraîche for dessert. Raise a glass with family and friends and pair the meal with a choice of delicious American white or red wines.
