About Time: You Discovered The Black Pig’s Epic Ciabatta SandwichesBy Alicia Grimshaw
There’s something rather glorious about sticking delicious fillings in between two slices of bread. We’re not talking about the sad over-refrigerated sarnies you get in a Tesco Meal deal, oh no, we’re talking about The Black Pig’s downright saucy ciabatta sandwiches stuffed with all kinds of wonderful ingredients, sourced from Borough Market.
The Black Pig are newish on the sandwich scene – and is made up of a group of chefs all striving for one thing – to make the best sarnies in the business. Located in Borough Market Kitchen, The Black Pig’s offering and ethos is simple: serve indulgent Italian influenced ciabatta sandwiches, focusing on quality, sustainable ingredients with a completely transparent supply chain.
There are four sarnies available on the menu with a choice of a number of rotating specials. Trust us when we say, they’re all bangers. The signature sandwich is the Honey Truffle Parmesan crammed with free-range pork shoulder, slow-roasted for 10 hours before being finished over coals. The tender, juicy pork is then placed in a toasted ciabatta and topped with The Black Pigs’ very own honey truffle mayonnaise and fennel apple slaw. Finally, the masterpiece is finished with peperoncini s’ott olio, and a mountain of 30 month aged parmesan from Reggio Emilia.
Other bready delights include: The Veggie One – smoked scamorza, fennel and apple slaw, honey truffle mayo & Italian salsa verde on toasted ciabatta; Smoked Scarmoza – slow roast free-range pork shoulder, aioli, fennel and apple slaw, basil passata and smoked scamorza on toasted ciabatta; and Salsa Verde – slow roast free-range pork shoulder, aioli, fennel and apple slaw with Italian salsa verde on toasted ciabatta.
Stop drooling and get yourself down to The Black Pig stat.
