1. The Decadent One: Bulgari Spa, London
What: Private Onyx Spa Suite (from £700 per couple)
Why: In terms of wow factor, this one sits right at the top. One of the most beautiful spas we’ve ever encountered, the Bulgari London literally drips with decadence. For a truly unforgettable experience, book an afternoon in the private Onyx Spa Suite. Tranquil and totally private, this stunning hideaway boasts treatment space for two, as well as a supersized hydrotherapy pool and a dedicated relaxation room. Champagne in hand, you’ll both be treated to a traditional foot massage, before applying your own body masks in the double steam shower, and settling in for a hot stone massage and scalp treatment. If this doesn’t impress, nothing will.

2. The Trendy One: K Spa, London
What: K Spa day pass (£65pp)
Why: Not enough time to escape the city? No problem – just hop straight over to Shepherd’s Bush where you’ll find the ridiculously cool K-West hotel, home to the most unique and innovative spa in the capital. A K Spa day pass grants you entry to a host of brilliant facilities, including the revolutionary Snow Paradise room – like a huge, circulation-boosting igloo, and the Sun Meadow, a serene Vitamin D-boosting space, kind of like a sun bed without the harmful UV. Combine this with all the usual spa suspects, and you’ve got yourself a seriously relaxing day. Be sure to retain enough energy to toast the day with a glass of bubbles in the hotel’s Studio Bar.

The day involves a session in the private mud chamber – more romantic than it sounds, we promise – where you’ll apply each other’s detoxifying osadi-clay wraps, before exploring the shiny-new spa facilities including five thermal experience rooms, a beautiful hydrotherapy pool, and the cosiest relaxation space around. The package also includes a light lunch in the spa and a room for the night in the chic hotel upstairs, which is super-central, should you feel the need to nip out for a cocktail or two.
Where: 16 Peter St, Manchester M60 2DS
4. The Eco One: Titanic Spa, Yorkshire
Why: Time to Indulge package (from £199 pp)
What: Tucked away in the rolling Pennine hills, the award-hogging Titanic Spa is perfect for a romantic weekend escape from the city. It’s also the UK’s first eco spa, powered by solar energy and using water from its own natural spring.
The Time to Indulge package is perfect for two: settle in with a massage and facial from Elemis, sip champagne in the al-fresco hot tub, and flit between the multitude of steam rooms, saunas and therapy pools. The package includes a light lunch in the spa as well as an evening dinner in the Bistro, so there’s really no reason to change out of your robe. (Seriously, no-one bats an eyelid if you arrive for dinner in cream terry-towelling.) Following a candlelight evening of locally sourced produce, you’ll be whisked upstairs to your private apartment, where you’ll even find a breakfast hamper waiting for you in the morning. Lovely.
