Order: Roasted dry aged Hereford sirloin with Yorkshire puddings, roast potatoes, creamed leeks and vegetables (£19.50)

What: Heady cocktails, nourishing and wholesome food, and hand pulled ales await at The Pig and Butcher. Here, it’s all about bringing conversation back to the dining table, from their sharing plates to their Sunday roasts. The team specialise in serving rare breeds such as White Park cattle, Iron Age pigs and Hebridean lamb – the quality shows, the roasts require all your attention.

Eat and Drink: The Pig & Butcher are really good at one thing – not producing an overly fussy roast. They stick to the classic formula; rare beef, crispy yorkies, proper spuds and nicely cooked veggies. And the addition of the creamed leeks adds a nice home comfort twist to the dish. Glorious, just glorious.

Order: 55 day-aged rump served with Yorkshire, duck fat roast potatoes, heritage carrots, sprouting broccoli and bone marrow gravy (£18)

What: Blacklock Soho is London’s worst kept secret. Everyone now bangs on about their chops and cocktails – and who can blame them. These guys dish up the juiciest, most plump, meat-tastic chops in London. All of their chops are cooked in their custom build fire oven – and good grief, they’re bursting with that intense, smokey flavour that sends people wild.

Eat and Drink: Aside from their sharing roasts, which feature an artery popping three meat medley along with jugs of gravy, and a mound of veggies – their other roasts are perfect for people who don’t like to share. If you’re in no mood to tackle a small farm yard, opt for the roast beef – a succulent, juicy medium-rare rump served with fluffy yorkshires, and crispy roast potatoes that you will never be able to imitate.

Order: Rump of 28 day aged British roast beef with horseradish plus trimmings (£17.50)

What: Beer and beef – a winning combo in our eyes. Good news: The Dean Swift excels in both areas. It’s the best of British at this local, the menu has been created with fresh ingredients and seasonality in mind. Sup on cask ales, European wines and London craft beers. As gastropubs go, this one is pretty snazzy.

Eat and Drink: One of the best beef roasts in London for sure. The Dean Swift has a concise Sunday roast menu – sticking to the classics. The beef is melt-in-the-mouth delicious, and the Yorkshire are crispy enough to with stand the onslaught of gravy. Roast beef and a good dollop of horseradish is hard to beat.

Order: Roast Hereford beef with Yorkshire pudding (£15)

What: The Marksman in Hackney is a proper pub, with proper food and proper beer. Chefs Tom Harris and Jon Rotheram, both alumni of Michelin starred St John restaurant in Clerkenwell breathed new life into this boozer back in 2015. And while the decor has gone slightly upmarket (think leather banquets over smoked-stained cushions), they’ve cleverly combined stand-out pub food with a great place to drink.

Eat and Drink: There’s good reason why The Marksman scooped the Michelin Pub of the Year 2017 award – the food here is exceptional, whilst still keeping it simple. Their roast features hearty slabs of beefs, and roast potatoes which are essentially golden toasty nuggets of pure bliss. A roast that would make your mum happy.

Have a roast, neck some gin cocktails and crawl back home just in time for Antiques Roadshow.

Eat and Drink: One of the best beef roasts in London, Kale on a Sunday roast should make more of an appearance. This humble green veg wilts underneath the rich, intense gravy.
