Discover This: Tigre Tacos’ Residency at The GunmakersBy Claudine Levy
Tigre Tacos have set up shop at The Gunmakers in Clerkenwell for their first permanent residency. If you like tacos, you’re in for a real treat. Expect chef Ramon “El Tigre” Ramos’ Mexi-Cali cuisine inspired by the street-food taquerias and trucks, with flavours of 70’s Southern California and an exclusive seafood and vegetarian menu to boot.
Chef Ramon Ramos, whose family restaurant is a taco institution in the city of Guadalajara, Mexico, first served Tigre Tacos on the cobbled streets of Nine Lives Alley in 2020. The Tigre Tacos team bang out fan favourites such as Baja fish and Camarones tacos, made with grilled king prawns, habanero and roasted pineapple salsa, alongside a selection of ceviches, tostadas, charcoal-grilled whole fish and whole octopus sharers, and desserts.
Dig into dishes like the super fresh local oysters with El Tigre’s hibiscus vinaigrette, Baja no-fish taco (made with banana flower), the sensational and must-try lobster tail taco and for a few hungry diners – whole octopus charcoal grilled, served with a stack of corn tortillas and all Tigre’s trimmings.
The cocktail menu is as much of a focus as the food, and has been designed by Victor Barascu, the Head Bartender of Nine Lives cocktail bar. The list highlights agave classics and uses seasonal ingredients, serving playful twists on favourites such as Tequila and Tonic, Mezcalita, Paloma and Michelada.
