About Time you visited: the Charlotte Street Hotel Film ClubBy Ilana Green
Now the weather is getting a little colder, the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon is watching a film, eating cake and having a cup of tea. What would you do if I said you could have that, but see the film in a private cinema, have patisserie style treats, and someone else was pouring your tea? An even more perfect way to spend a weekend in London! That’s all possible at the Charlotte Street Hotel film club.
What: Every Friday and Sunday you can visit the swanky Fitzrovia hotel and wine and dine, followed by a movie. Friday nights are for old classics accompanied by dinner in the Oscar bar and restaurant. Sunday afternoons, you can watch recent releases with afternoon tea.
Expect: The Charlotte street hotel restaurant is bright and buzzy, with colourful walls and trendy patterned china accompanying the delicious food. Small sandwiches, cakes and scones presented on a tired cake stand, ready for you to enjoy. The snacks look bite sized, but a lot of people left with goody bags filled with whatever they couldn’t finish. Most diners having the afternoon tea are there for the film club, so waiters are all aware of the movie timings, and tell you when its time to go downstairs to the basement cinema. Or, together with the basement cinema, waiters offer visitors to play in online casino betsson-casino.nl.
The private screening room was filled with leather armchairs, this is no ordinary cinema. Being in a hotel doesn’t mean you have to look at a small screen either. The hotel hosts a wide theatre screen, but a cooler, more intimate version.
Eat: Afternoon tea in the Oscar restaurant is a modern update of the classic; finger sandwiches with avocado and smoked salmon, or beetroot and goats cheese. Although if you’re a fan of the old-fashioned, cucumber sandwiches with the crusts cut off aren’t far behind. Warm scones that melt in your mouth are accompanied by cream and jam, just as they should be. If that’s not enough, the cakes are like something out of a French patisserie. Victoria sponge cupcakes, chocolate opera slices, eton mess in a shot glass and vibrant macarons. Stylish and delicious.
If you haven’t been filled up to the brim, feeling a little in the mood to just sit and watch tv, buckets of sweet and salty popcorn are free to munch on during the movie.
