Hotels are so often stuffy repeats of the same concept. Clean, modern, functional but lacking character. Treehouse Hotel bursts with personality and playfulness, encapsulating the carefree wonder of childhood play with an elevated, luxurious refinement. It feels equally suited to families, couples or friends enjoying a night out in London. The design leans heavily into the Treehouse name with the leafy, wooden features prominent throughout the hotel. The Treehouse Hotel occupies floors 9 to 16 of an otherwise unassuming building just off the northern tip of Regent’s Street, a stone’s throw from the BBC studios. Even as a Londoner, something is charming about staying quite so centrally, and the easy access to the heart of the city encourages you to head out and explore.

The concept is smart. A warm reception on the ground floor followed by a speedy lift ride up to the main hotel, like ascending into a treehouse. It creates a real sense of adventure and separation from the outside world.

Treehouse Hotel: The Rooms

Photo of Treehouse Hotel bedroom

Photo of bathtub with view of BT TowerOur room on the 12th floor towers over the neighbouring buildings, allowing you to keep the curtains open and enjoy the view while maintaining a sense of privacy and cosiness. It really does feel like your own little treehouse. Earthy elements appear throughout, from wooden flooring to a slender tree trunk running up the bathroom wall, while a rustic, industrial edge comes through exposed concrete ceilings and pendant lighting.

There are thoughtful, playful touches throughout. Cute cuckoo clocks chirp on the hour, while a small Paddington teddy bear and a reversible mirror-cum-tube map ground the room firmly in its London surroundings. It was also lovely to see that the welcome fruit basket and snacks had been catered to our dietary requirements. You’ll always win me over with some Candy Kittens!

The bathroom is spacious and features a truly fantastic rainfall shower that you will not want to get out of. Eco-friendly, Treehouse Hotel-branded form part of a clearly considered sustainability effort. Guests can also access filtered drinking water from taps located in the communal corridors.

We stayed in a family room, which offers two large double beds. While you gain bed real estate, you do lose a little floor space, though the added comfort is worth it. Our room also had a connecting door, ideal for families. That said, there is inevitably more noise leak, so if you are booking just one room, it is worth requesting a non-connecting option.

Treehouse Hotel: Madera Restaurant

Photo of Madera restaurantMadera, the in-house Mexican restaurant, is located on the 15th floor and boasts panoramic views of London through floor-to-ceiling windows. The stylish central bar, moody lighting and hanging plants mean this hotel restaurant would not feel out of place in the heart of Soho. The atmosphere is lively, supported by an energetic soundtrack of upbeat funk playing confidently throughout – you can even listen to their playlist on Spotify.

There are no stuffy hotel menus here (enough hispi cabbage already!), but instead offering that is genuinely difficult to choose from and caters excellently for vegans. Madera certainly stands on its own two feet and is worthy of a visit in its own right.

Our meal begins with the obligatory bowl of guacamole, served with thick, crunchy, warm tortilla chips. The vegan ceviche was a light, citrussy delight, presented spectacularly on a bowl of crushed ice. Cauliflower tostaditas arrived as delicate, bite-sized nibbles topped with crispy kale, though they certainly are not filling.

For mains, we ordered the dangerously saucy mushroom taco, charred street corn and the finely-seasoned cauliflower adobada, one of Madera’s signature ‘rocks’ dishes. The cauliflower comes sizzling on hot lava stones with rice, black beans, chilli sauce and pico de gallo, allowing you to build your own tacos at the table. Is there anything more childlike than being able to eat with your hands? For dessert, the Oaxacan chocolate cake was deeply rich and well-balanced by the chocolate crumb. Although I did not try it myself, the fried ripe plantain received absolutely rave reviews at our table, so it may be worth asking if a vegan version is possible.

An à la carte breakfast is also served in Madera, offering a mix of familiar breakfast classics alongside options with a Mexican twist.

Treehouse Hotel: The Nest Rooftop Bar

Photo of The Nest rooftop barThe rooftop cocktail bar, The Nest, is the crown jewel of the hotel, even if we avoided the chilly terrace during our December visit. This cosy hideaway is so popular that even on a grey Monday lunchtime, guests were arriving at noon sharp to secure their tables. The views are spectacular, with one side looking towards the Shard and Walkie Talkie building, and the other offering close-up views of the BT Tower. The Nest also hosts regular guest DJs, fire-breathing performances and dog-friendly drinks events on Sundays.
