If you are one of those persons, here are a few tips that should help you when it comes to cottage rental.

Access

Cottages to rent can be found quickly, and while you might want a peaceful place, it shouldn’t be too secluded. Before you book anything, ask whether the cottage has road access. You should be able to access it from the main road; otherwise you might have some trouble getting there.

If the cottage isn’t accessible from a main road, you should check whether you can get there without damaging your vehicle. There are also some cottages located on an island, which means that it is challenging to get there. If you need to take a boat, you should make sure that there is one close by.

Licenses

If you want to fish, this might be more complicated than you could believe. There are areas which will require a permit. Inform yourself and find out whether your destination has specific rules when it comes to fishing.

Luckily for you, most regions also offer one-day fishing licenses which only last for a day. These are precisely what you need if you do not plan to spend too much time at the cabin. Additionally, if you will be boating, you will need a boating license. For example, if you travel to Canada, you need to pass an online exam, and you will receive a printable card.

Stores

If you plan to stay at a cabin, you should think about food as well. The food you have might not be enough, and if you run out of it, you should make sure that there are stores close by. Before you get to your cabin, do a little bit of research and find out which are the nearest stores.

If you want to go fishing, you should also find out if there are any ice and bait stores close by. Bait shops are quite common in cottage areas so there shouldn’t be a problem when it comes to finding one.

Plumbing

Another detail you should be aware of is the plumbing of a cottage. In most cases, you will have a septic system in your cabin. This means that anything you flush down will get into a septic tank that is dug into the ground.

When you deal with a septic ground, you can’t send down the toilet or sink anything you want. You should be careful with certain substances such as oils, cooking grease or even some liquid soaps. The septic tank can’t handle too many things, and this also means that you should throw your toilet paper in the garbage instead of flushing it.
