The fast faced hustle and bustle of living and working in the city is exciting, but once in a while you need to get out of the city and experience the joy of nature. You won’t be able to get your favourite take out meal as easily but you will find your stress levels ease the more you adjust to the slower pace of life and the natural environment around you.
Yorkshire, UK
Yorkshire is a county in northern England known for its Viking and Roman heritage. It also has two large national parks, Norman Castles and Medieval Abbeys. If you are looking for an excuse to get out of the busy cities then you will find Yorkshire a relaxing place to calm your nerves. You can visit the Yorkshire Dales National Park and take in the breath-taking scenery and enjoy spotting the wildlife.
Visit the Bempton Cliffs to do some cliff top bird watching while walking along the nature trails, and if you enjoy walking then be sure to spend a day exploring the waterfalls in Ingleton. If you want a luxurious stay then visit the 20,000 acre Swinton Estate which has its own spa, park and cookery school. You can enjoy the great outdoors and feel like royalty during your stay.
Thailand, Asia
Known for its opulent royal palaces, tropical beaches and ornate temples, Thailand is the perfect holiday destination for travellers looking for sunshine, relaxation and culture. Bangkok is the capital city that you will most likely fly into. You can easily take domestic flights, or travel by train, bus, or car to get around the country.
The beach resorts are fabulous in different areas of the country and you can indulge in scuba diving, snorkelling, swimming, island hopping, and partying. A few popular beaches are in the Phi Phi Islands, Similan Islands, Ko Pha-ngan, Railay Beach, Hat Karon, Jomtien Beach and Phuket. There are tons of other secluded beaches available if you are looking for a quiet private holiday.
Los Glaciares National Park, Argentina
In the Austral Andes in Argentina lies the Los Glaciares National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can see the spectacular scenery that surrounds you in the national park with massive mountains, lakes and forests. You can visit the Glaciar Perito Moreno that is the only glacier in the world which continues to expand. El Calafate is the closest town and you can find fabulous accommodations to stay in. Be sure to take the time to trek Monte Fitz Roy and Mt. Torre as the flora, fauna and the views are phenomenal.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is a small country in the Indian Ocean southeast of India. It is known for its luscious forests, wild safaris and stunning beaches. Visit Weligama and Wadduwa to stay at lovely beach resorts and indulge in water activities. You can visit the Udawalawe National Park to go on safari where you will see many different species of animals, lizards, and insects.
Take a trip to Mirissa on the south coast of Sri Lanka if you want to go whale and dolphin watching. You may get to see killer whales, sperm whales, fin whales, Bryde’s whales and even the giant blue whale. You can work with elephants at Pinnawala if you have time to do some volunteering.
Cancún, Caribbean
Cancún is a city in Mexico bordering the Caribbean Sea on the Yucatán Peninsula. If you are concerned about the expense of holidaying in the Caribbean then this is a budget-friendly alternative. Known for its numerous resorts, nightlife and beaches, it is a bustling city but there are many remote and stunning places that you can visit in Cancún.
