Sometimes it’s rather nice to fill our diaries with cultural events, rather than brunch reservations. Don’t get us wrong, our love for avocado knows no bounds – but we’re pretty darn good at the entertainment round down at our local pub quiz, and we’re quite fond of busting some questionable moves to live music. If your diary is looking pretty lacklustre this month – Juju’s Bar and Stage in Shoreditch is putting on a variety of events over the next coming weeks. Here’s what you need to know:

Juju’s Bar and Stage: The Lowdown

Nestled in the heart of the Old Truman Brewery, Juju’s Bar and Stage is a haven for arts and music. Shunning the norm and embracing all art forms Juju’s programme is a prime example of this, with events ranging from live acts to talks to literature, and everything in between.

Juju’s Bar and Stage: The Events

The Cable Street Rag Band will be hitting the stage on 6th May for an evening of rollicking jazz, ragtime and old time blues from the 1920s and 30s. Dance shoes: get ‘em on yer feet. Let Ewan Bleach and his motley crew take you on a musical journey on the first Saturday of every month with a wild, bohemian night of roaring swing jazz and dancing.

Talks are an integral part of Jujus programming, and a key highlight of May’s calendar is The Pint Of Science Festival coming to the venue from 15th – 18th May. Pint Of Science is a non-profit organisation that brings some of the most brilliant scientists to bars and pubs to discuss their latest research and findings. There’s no need for a degree in astro-physics to attend, the talks are catered for even the most novice of scientist. Each night different speakers will be exploring in-depth subjects – ‘Developing Humans In Nature’, ‘Coding The Future: AI & Nano Materials’ and more.

Another May highlight at Juju’s Bar & Stage comes in the shape of the Open Senses Festival late night with ‘We Are Now’ on the 20th May. We Are Now are purveyors of immersive and experiential live music events. Their aim is to explore performance and art by drawing on the all of the audiences senses, which create a whole new way of gig going. Artists such as Bunty and Yusulfa are set to perform.

On a literary tip, another unmissable date in the calendar is the regular ‘Book Slam’ on 24th May. Book Slam is London’s first/ best/ only literary nightclub, which features all the top writers and the finest live music. Guests have included the likes of Sam Smith, Hanif Kureishi, Dave Eggers, Adele, Nick Hornby, Kate Nash and many more.

And finally, LDN Talks @ Night is a new concept which aims to make”Tedx” style talks more accessible. Juju’s team have pulled together an impressive array of leading entrepreneurs, intellectuals, bright thinkers and incredible individuals to inspire and re-invent your after work beers. On 30th May, Robert Llewellyn (that chap from Scrapheap Challenge and long running sci-fi comedy series Red Dwarf ), will discuss if electric cars are rubbish, and what impact they could have on the environment, the economy, jobs, the energy industry and our day to day lives.
