The founders of Shorts on Tap, Filippo Polesel and Michele Fiascaris, explain the idea behind their short film festival in advance of our joint event on the 4th June at Cafe 1001:

Shorts on Tap: The Last Event

When the lights went out after our Women in Charge event, all that was left was smiles, the joy of sharing a night with friends, the relief of knowing that everything went smoothly as possible at our new home Cafe 1001 on Brick Lane. The build-up to this event was  intense – this is big a change of gear for Shorts On tap: not only a much larger venue but also the beginning of 2 important collaborations – with MyStreet and of course, About Time Magazine.  We started off 6 months ago at Juno Shoreditch, a nice, cosy venue in the heart of East London. We soon needed a larger space and Cafe 1001 came handy with a 200-capacity back room.

Shorts on Tap: The Judges

The judges largely have a festival background: Silvia Bellitto has collaborated with Sundance and Venice International Film Festival, Olivier Namet is the project manager at MyStreet and Kristina Cranfeld was voted best short at our previous event. The directors of the best films picked at each event are invited to join our jury panel at the following event  – it’s a democratic way of choosing the top films, we think.

Hermit by Susannah Lane Bragg: a story about isolation, exploitation and a sudden epiphany

No More Page 3 by Rebecca Coley : a cheerful short denouncing the objectification of women on tabloids

The Spring in Sofia by Melissa Melody Lepore: a touching tale dealing with abuse and slavery
