About the races
On the track, the race attracts the classiest thoroughbred horses from across Europe to compete for prize money of £1.35m. Off the track, the Epsom Derby has become the social and fashion event of the calendar for many, including Her Majesty. The race was won last year by the father-and-son combination of Aidan and Joseph O’Brien who guided Australia to victory in front of a crowd of 120,000 people – making it the most popular one-day event in the whole of sport. With trains to Epsom from Waterloo taking just half-an-hour, we think it’s about time you visited the Epsom Derby.
