Attend This: Toklas Bakery’s Annual Christmas MarketBy Iona Goulder
The smell of freshly baked stollen and spiced mince pies will soon waft along Surrey Street, as Toklas Bakery announces the return of its annual Christmas Market on Saturday 6th December. Bringing together some of the UK’s most inventive independent producers, the market promises a day of festive indulgence for food lovers, gift hunters and design devotees alike.

At the heart of the market, Toklas will offer its signature Christmas range: from rich puddings (£40, serves 5) and stollen (£24 whole), to lebkuchen, biscotti, granola and chutneys, all designed with gifting in mind. Toklas wines will also be available, alongside bagged biscuits and build-your-own hampers for the serious festive planner. Christmas goodies will be available in-store from Saturday 29th November, and for collection each Saturday in December via the Toklas Slerp shop, with final pickups on 20 December.
Joining Toklas are a carefully curated selection of independent makers:
– Quite Nice Clothing, an East London design studio creating hand-drawn homeware and apparel for the food-obsessed.
– Mainly Breakfast, the London-based illustrator and food stylist Emma Cantlay, whose cult illustrated calendars and prints are as whimsical as they are covetable.
– Sirop, bringing single-forest Canadian maple syrup from Québec to the UK.
– Tama Ceramics, offering mindful, hand-built pottery from Central Saint Martins-trained artist Suby Tamang.
– Pump Street Chocolate, the Suffolk bean-to-bar specialists with a loyal following for their chocolate and bakery treats.
– Imad’s Syrian Kitchen, whose cookbooks and pantry essentials, including house-made spice blends, have become pantry staples for home cooks.
– Yod & Co, curating homeware, candles and festive decorations from global design talent.
– Maegen, adding a splash of colour to home fragrances and accessories this season.
– Sea Sisters, a Dorset craft cannery preserving the best of British fish.
– Kouttone, South-East London’s cult panettone, baked in small batches by Cem Altinsoy.
– Walgate Wines, offering English wines from Ben Walgate and natural, minimal-intervention selections from Master of Wine Tim Wildman.
– Fielden Whisky, crafting English whisky from heritage grains using regenerative farming methods.
For those needing a festive sip, Toklas will serve Black Lines Oat Nog from its bakery counter, the perfect antidote to winter chill.
The market is free to attend and opens at 10am, running until sell-out at Toklas Bakery, 9 Surrey Street, WC2R 2ND. Last year, eager shoppers cleared the shelves by 1pm, so early arrival is highly recommended.
