The survey by HouseSimple.com polled more than 2,000 recent UK home sellers, and revealed the vast difference between high street estate agents and their online equivalents. With the average UK estate agent charging a 1.8% commission fee, plus VAT, using high street agents is costing UK householders thousands of pounds when it doesn’t have to as most online estate agents charge just a fraction of this fee.
Of those polled, the average potential saving each could have made by selling their properties online instead of with traditional agents was a massive £3,642 – just think what that money could have been better spent on! The research broke down the average potential savings by region. Below are the figures:The survey also found that 50% of respondents felt their high street estate agent’s commitment to selling their property dropped off considerably after the initial couple of weeks of marketing. In addition to these revealing stats, the research found that 41% didn’t think high street agents were worth the fees they charged. When asked about their online selling experience, the average time it took people polled to sell their home was just 8 weeks, and 97% achieved the price they were looking for.
