Walk past the homeware section, veer around the microwaves and head up the escalators to discover The Gardening Society at John Lewis Oxford Street; an urban jungle with dazzling views across the city.

In previous years, The Gardening Society has become a home away from home for a number of London restaurants, dishing up  seasonal eat at this Central London spot. This year, however, John Lewis are upping it up to 11 with the launch of their Summer of Sound On The Roof.

Not just a place to laze under the rays, this summer’s roof garden will feature live gigs, DJ sets and acoustic music against the breathtaking panoramic backdrop of the capital’s skyline. Here’s the all-important details:

Summer of Sound On The Roof: Line Up

Summer of Sound On The Roof is coming to the capital on Saturday (5th May) with live performances from Daudi Matsiko and Slow Club’s Charles Watson, providing a taste of what to expect from the summer-long series.

From May to September, the Oxford Street rooftop will play host to multi-genre DJ sets, live music and acoustic gigs from established and emerging talent.  Other dates to put in your diary are: Catherine McGrath (6th May) and Harry Jay Steele (26th May).

Summer of Sound On The Roof: What to Expect

Collaborating with some of the best audio home system creators, Summer of Sound On The Roof will be home to three beautifully designed immersive sound studios from Sonos, Ruark Audio and Naim, which can be booked here.

The Sonos space will deliver the ultimate Sonos home experience. Surrounded by beautiful album artwork, visitors can request their favourite song, artist or album using Alexa voice control and experience the incredible sound quality of the brand’s wireless speakers.

Luxury British audio pioneers, Naim Audio, will showcase the truly stunning sound of its Mu-so all-in-one system, which combines 40 years of audio expertise in streaming, amplification and speaker technology to deliver exceptional sound quality.

Nick Franglen of Lemon Jelly has curated a playlist for Ruark’s studio, providing a soundtrack experienced through Ruark’s upcoming and highly anticipated MRx wireless speakers. A world exclusive for John Lewis customers as the Oxford Street rooftop is currently the only place to see and hear Ruark’s latest addition.

Summer of Sound On The Roof: Eat and Drink

Of course, there’s food. And plenty of it. Fried chicken kings Butchies are bringing their much-loved dishes from their Shoreditch outpost to John Lewis’ rooftop. Expect their signature buttermilk fried chicken sandwiches, including an exclusive for Summer of Sound On The Roof – the Freddie Mercur-Bee, a smoky bacon and chilli-infused honey special, using organic honey sourced from local London beekeepers, as well as sides such as Butchies’ chilli-honey fried halloumi and a vegetarian option of a kale, avocado and almond salad.

For those seeking a nostalgia-laced sweet treat, Butchies will also be serving up a selection of retro ice-cream sandwiches courtesy of Happy Endings Desserts, including strawberry parfait and malted milk varieties.

And for sweet, alcoholic nectar: Summer of Sound On The Roof will be home to Fever-Tree’s Gin & Tonic Garden throughout the season, featuring eight drinks on the menu. The specially created list includes Sipsmith London Dry with Premium Indian Tonic, the perfectly pink Light Aromatic Tonic with Pink Pepper Gin and the crisp, tasty Refreshingly Light Elderflower Tonic with Regal Rogue Lively White Vermouth, all perfect for sipping in the sunshine.

The minds behind NT’s Bar and Night Tales, Background Bars, have curated the Summer of Sound On The Roof bar with an impressive wine, beer and cocktail list of delectable seasonal serves. The menu includes a Rhubarb Negroni, Sparking Serenata, Jazzy, Drum & Sax and Mr Earl’s Quartet. See you there.
