A new report has revealed some surprising statistics about young drivers aged 17 – 24 in the London area. The results come fresh from a survey conducted by Jennings Motor Group which asked young drivers across the UK about their behaviour and experiences concerning drink driving.

The survey found that 24% of young drivers in London have driven early the next morning after a heavy night of drinking more than once, and 21% of them received 3 points on their license during their first 12 months on the road!

The results also revealed that young UK drivers are still lacking crucial knowledge about units present in alcohol and the consequences of drink driving.

92% of those surveyed did not know how many units of alcohol were in a 250ml glass of wine.

46% of those questioned thought driving over the legal limit would only result in an unlimited fine. It also results in up to 6 months in prison and a criminal record.

56% of young drivers had found themselves in a risky situation or near crash between 1 or 4 times

Dale Gillespie from Jennings Motor Group, who carried out the survey stated…

“We wanted to show the public that although there are negative connotations with young drivers and drinking, there is a large percentage who are actually very sensible, as the statistics suggest. We wanted to prepare new drivers for the road, and show them that drink driving is a serious matter and shouldn’t be taken lightly. The safety of everyone on the road is of the utmost importance for us.”
