There’s something about going to the cinema during the winter months that makes leaving the warm confines of your living room all the more special. And we ain’t talking about your local Odeon – we’re talking about immersive snow-filled cinema experiences. Maybe it’s the mulled wine on tap, the faux fur blankets or the boozy hot chocolates, but watching a festive flick (read: Elf, Love Actually, The Snowman) surrounded by fake snow is a festive activity we highly recommend. 1. For a Pop-Up Cinema: Luna Cinema at Cardinal Place
What: Snuggle up with mulled wine and warming winter cocktails in Luna’s cosy pop-up cinema, with classic Christmas flicks that are guaranteed to get you in the festive mood. Whether you want to rekindle your childhood excitement with the legendary Elf, or get emotional with the eternal seasonal blockbusters Love Actually and The Holiday, this is the place to get those Christmas feels.

What: Backyard Cinema are doing more than just playing winter favourites this yuletide season. Popping up at Winterville as part of London’s alternative festive experience on Clapham Common, Backyard Cinema’s Christmas Labyrinth is their biggest production to date. Navigate an enormous magical maze before journeying through a tunnel of trees to discover an intimate enchanted forest cinema. As well as festive snacks, mulled drinks and cocktails available inside the screens, Backyard Cinema also houses their very own retro Christmas cabaret bar for ticket holders and non cinema goes to enjoy.

3. For a Luxury Cinema Experience: Devonshire Club
What: Devonshire Club’s Garden Terrace are screening festive favourites throughout December for their first al fresco cinema series. The exclusive package includes a picnic hamper with hot dogs, popcorn, Welsh rarebit and a flask of hot liqueur chocolate, as well as hot water bottles and blankets to keep you snug. Films include Polar Express (7th Dec), It’s a Wonderful Life (14th Dec), and Miracle on 34th Street (21st Dec).

4. For a Wintery Cinema: Pop-Up Screens
What: Back after a sold out summer, Pop-Up Screens are heading to the warm with their Narnia inspired cinema. On arrival, you’ll be asked to enter the cinema through a wardrobe and embark on an adventure through a snow-filled forest to find the screen. The cinema will be complete with Christmas trees, mulled wine, beer, Moretto hot chocolate and lots of real (fake) snow.

5. For an Immersive Experience: Backyard Cinema x Winter Wonderland
What: Backyard Cinema have brought one of the nation’s best-loved Christmas film to life this festive season. Hosted at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland, ‘The Snowman Experience’ is a multi-roomed, multi-sensory, cinematic adventure full of wonder and delight for every generation. A world first experiential show, Backyard Cinema pushes the boundaries of traditional screenings as you journey through replica sets of different scenes from the movie, along with the Snowman himself making an appearance.
