4. For a Community Celebration: Ernest Lunch Party

What: On Sunday (9th July), Ernest Lunch Party will bring together some of East London’s best local restaurants and Hackney’s food charities together in an afternoon of food, music and good times. Taking place in Gillet Square, the event has been organised to celebrate the Hackney community and encourage locals to experience the good work being done all around their neighbourhood.

Why: As a food solidarity network, Ernest connects restaurants, diners and local charities that work with food. The model is simple; alongside the traditional service charge Ernest introduces a ‘solidarity tax’, which goes to support food charities in the restaurants’ local area. The Ernest Lunch was born out of a desire to get people who work in the local food scene together to eat and meet. Food will be served from 12pm in the Dalston square for lunchers to come and enjoy.
