In London, it pops up everywhere – your morning latte, your TikTok, and, now, in the city’s most delicious desserts. Green tea desserts are the sweet spot in London’s ever-evolving food scene – and it’s about time you knew where to find the best.
Matcha is for people in a hurry… who still want to feel like they’re doing their bodies a small favour. It’s green enough to trick you into thinking it’s healthy, but delicious enough to want more. Here’s my picks for the best matcha desserts in London:

A pilgrimage spot for anyone serious about matcha. This full-blown matcha dessert bar is worth travelling for. The soft serve is absurdly creamy – I dream about it. Grab a sundae with red bean and mochi if you’re feeling fancy; you’ll find yourself plotting reasons to accidentally be in Chinatown more often.
New York favourite Cafe Kitsune does some great matcha treats. Their strawberry matcha is probably the best in London, and the sweet stuff is great too. If pastries could flirt, the matcha cookie here would never be single. Soft, buttery, vibrant green, and a swirled with raspberry flavour, it’s sweet, earthy and so moreish.
Some desserts are nice. Some are essential. The Dorayaki – traditional confection from tokyo consisting of two small pancake-like patties wrapped around different fillings, served with matcha ice cream – falls into the latter category. This place is a no frills, just good food done well. Well worth a visit!
A hideaway for those who want peace with their sugar rush. This Japanese boutique and tea rooms are a lovely oasis in Angel. The matcha basque cheesecake here is to die for – it’s sweet, creamy, decadent and light all at once.
There are days when only a luxe baked cheesecake will do – preferably one with matcha and served alongside yoghurt sorbet. This is Knightsbridge at its most decadent: order for the table and thank us later.
