There are many things that make us happy: clinching a win at the pub quiz, freshly baked almond croissants and a well-made iced latte. But the arrival of new restaurants hitting the capital sends us in a right spin. From a West London Italian delicatessen to an all-day chai cafe –  here’s a roundup of the hottest new June openings in London:

1. For a Neighbourhood Hangout: Salt + Pickle

The Run-Down: Crystal Palace is going to become home to new locally-owned neighbourhood deli/bistro. Salt + Pickle will open in early June on Westow Hill, and the menu will specialise in preserved ingredients, using a variety of preservation techniques, with a drinks list celebrating small, independent and local suppliers.

Eat and Drink: Salt + Pickle’s menu will feature all things preserved, salted, pickled and cured, combining local suppliers’ produce with preserving techniques for a unique twist on café dining; think S+P treacle-cured salmon and S+P homemade beef pastrami. A small, well-curated drinks list will shine a light on small wine producers and craft breweries, as local as featuring the likes of Gipsy Hill Brewery, which is five minutes’ drive away.

One More Thing: Salt + Pickle will comprise of 30 covers with bar seating for a further ten covers in the evening, serving from 10am until 10pm, seven days a week.

2. For Pizza: Radio Alice

The Run-Down: You may have visited Radio Alice in Hoxton Square, and if you haven’t made it down yet – don’t panic. The chaps are opening a second site on Clapham’s Venn Street in June. Brothers Matteo and Salvatore Aloe believe that tasty pizza starts with a light and digestible ancient grain sourdough base, topped with seasonal and beautiful ingredients.

Eat and Drink: Seasonal and carefully sourced ingredients will form the short menu, ranging from the classics; organic fiordilatte, tomato and basil through to the more adventurous, speck, gorgonzola, fiordilatte, walnuts and honey, and Prosciutto di Parma, organic burrata, and orange infused oil. A selection of piccoli, including Amalfi coast anchovies and slow food approved Mortadella from Bologna will also be available, whilst desserts will include affogato with a splash of bourbon, and lemon and mint sorbet.

One More Thing: Integrity in ingredients will extend to the beer and wine list too, with a selection of organic and natural wines, including house wine from Libera Terra – a co-operative set up on land liberated from mafia control.

3. For Beverages: Pamban

The Run-Down: The sweet, spicy aromatic flavours of South-East Asia are arriving in the heart of  Camden when Pamban, a new all-day chai and coffee house, rolls into town. Serving a unique and innovative menu of chai and coffee-based drinks with an original ‘eats’ menu, Pamban will open from morning to evening in the busy surrounds of Camden Market, and will work closely with a selection of artisan suppliers in the UK, Sri Lanka and India.

Eat and Drink: At the dedicated chai counter, the house chai will be brewed freshly before customers’ eyes served in traditional clay cups. Original Masala is the house; rose and lavender are alternative offerings amongst other delectable flavours. Over at the espresso counter, organic beans and velvety milk from the Estate Dairy will combine to offer an exciting coffee experience. The all-day ‘eats’ menu boasts a variety of Asian-inspired sweet and savoury treats. Available to take-away or enjoy in, options will include a Bun Maska – a sweet bread bun served with tropical jams and jaggery, which is an unrefined sugar made from kitul palm trees.

One More Thing: For something different, try a red cappuccino (made exactly like the coffee version except using rooibos tea shots), served with Sri Lankan cinnamon and honey, or an indulgent kulfi affogato – an Asian twist on the Italian classic.

Eat and Drink: Brixton’s menu will mirror that of Fitzrovia’s, featuring a mixture of street food and main dishes, with new additions including biryani and chicken chaap, a rich Mughlai dish slow-cooked in a creamy poppy seed and cashew nut sauce. The emphasis here will be on smaller plates, at a lower price point than the West End.
