The Weekly Wang: Lazy BonesBy Nick Horowitz
The fourth Weekly Wang review sees us visit one of Farringdon’s post-work favourites. A stone’s throw from Farringdon station, Lazy Bones has been delighting customers since it opened in 2013. Seemingly busy on most days of the week (it’s a ‘creative’ area), office crowds flock to Lazy Bones for their great cocktails and outrageous happy hour deals. However, the restaurant also offers a good variety of meaty offerings including a range of wings. Bring on the Weekly Wang.
Lazy Bones: The Facts
Name: Lazy Bones
Location: Cowcross Street, Farringdon, EC1M (tucked away behind Starbucks/Leon)
Opening Hours: Monday-Friday. 11:00-10:00/11pm (day dependent)
Time of Visit: Friday; 4:45pm
Weather: A ‘why do I work in a dark office’ kind of day. Thus the reason I was out at 4:30pm. (You can sit outside)
Wing of Choice: Hot Daze Wings (4 wings)
Lazy Bones: The Ratings
Presentation: These wings are quite a sight. Whilst presentation is kept minimal, the wings themselves are messy. But then this is a messy wing; it’s not shy to admit that. They’re covered head to toe in a heavy red sauce (not viscous), which means you’re going to be quite the spectacle if you want to get right in there (which you obviously do).
Lazy Bones: The Wings
Temperature and Texture: Wings arrived hot. Like too hot to touch. Once they’d cooled though, there was a big crunch to them, which is just what you want on a Friday. However, the gnaw at the end wasn’t great. Your mouth wasn’t sure what it was chewing on, which is not how you ever want to end your Friday night. Ever.
Size: These wings (drum/flat combo) are super sized. These chickens must be on something.
Flavour: The sauce may not be buffalo, but it’s still great. Very tomatoey, with a nice tang to it. Bold flavour. Tender meat.
Heat: The sauce has a kick – but not a kick down. The deeper you go though, the warmer it gets.
Accessories: Wings come with a pot of sour cream, and this soured the occasion. I swear the dip used to be blue cheese. I think the accountant has been in.
Cost: At £7 for four, these aren’t the cheapest wings around town. That pesky accountant again. They were £4.95 at one point. #creditcrunch
Extra: 4 lemon wipes (one for each wing) were brought along on a miniature plate, which was strange but sweet. Other than that, the supplements were lacking. It’s a lottery whether you have enough napkins on your table. And seeing as you need a napkin per wing with this particular flavour, this is a punt I’m not willing to make.
Lazy Bones: The Bottom Line
If you want something a little different, these are a great option that will satisfy your wing craving . Just don’t eat them on a date.
