Oka Restaurant Review: The Lowdown

Oka Restaurant Review

Oka Restaurant Review

Oka is a small, understated restaurant in leafy Primrose Hill, which serves up some of the best sushi, sashimi and Japanese dishes in North London. The restaurant is all about quality – from the fresh fish used for their sashimi, to the best quality seaweed in their delicious seaweed salad – and you can really taste their pride in ingredients. Oka offers up a modern take on traditional pan-Asian and sushi cuisines, and their daily deliveries guarantees fresh, healthy and tasty food for good prices. All the dishes are made-to-order, so you know you’re getting the best for your money here.

Oka Restaurant Review: The Food

Oka Restaurant Review

The menu at Oka is small but perfectly formed, with a good range of sushi, sashimi and noodles to choose from. Start by trying their chilli edamame – they are fiery and delicious – and a selection of small plates. The salmon tartare is fresh and tasty, and the yellowtail carpaccio with jalapeno sauce is one of my favourites on the menu, bursting with flavour.

You can’t miss the wakame seaweed salad – it’s totally addictive – and their simple salmon sashimi for a taste of Japanese goodness.

Oka Restaurant Review

For sushi, my top picks would be the spicy tuna rolls with avocado and cucumber, the salmon with avocado, cucumber and lime mayo and jalapeno salmon roll with spring onion, shichimi spices, avocado and cucumber rolled in tempura crumbs served with citrus mayo. Divine.

The rolls are perfectly balanced and well thought out, with a real focus on flavour. If you fancy some hot food, the red Thai curry with tofu and miso black cod are worth the journey alone. Of course, you can’t skip dessert – their freshly baked chocolate cookie dough topped with coconut ice cream is the stuff of dreams.

Oka Restaurant Review: The Drinks

Oka Restaurant Review

There’s a decent selection of red and white wines at Oka, including Italy, New Zealand and Spanish wines. For something more traditional, try their Japanese beers, or simple selection of sake. The sparkling sake Shirakabegura is my personal favourite, and goes perfectly with the sushi here.
