Need somewhere new to dine al fresco this weekend? The hidden terrace at York & Albany in Camden is one of my favourite secret spots in the capital – and I think you must visit for all the food, wine and fun in the sunshine. Here’s what you need to know:

York & Albany: The Vibe

If you’re looking for a delicious bite to eat or a quiet glass of wine in Camden, or perhaps a hotel for a weekend getaway in London, then you’re in for a real treat at York & Albany. They have amazing seasonal menus, carefully created by York & Albany’s Head Chef, Will Stanye, who always tries to use the freshest, highest quality ingredients in his food. It’s the perfect place for casual drinks, weekend brunches and sipping wine in the summer terrace, which we totally love.

Think a stunning regency townhouse, with good food, a great vibe and the perfect setting for chilling with friends. The location cannot be beaten for weekends; a stone’s throw away from some of the most scenic views London has to offer, the restaurant is right next to Regent’s Park, which is lovely for a stroll after lunch. Ideal.

York & Albany: The Food

Their summer menu is seriously delicious. We started with the burrata, which is totally dreamy – with heritage tomatoes, linseed and basil. It’s fresh, light and moreish, exactly the kind of dish you want to be eating all summer long. The ‘springs’ smoked salmon with dill, beetroot and potato salad is an impressively refined dish, which shows the talent of an accomplished chef. The dish is almost too pretty to eat, and the flavours work so well together – a real highlight.

For main courses, you can’t beat the pasta at York and Albany. The tagliatelle with girolles, watercress pesto and summer truffle is absolutely divine; the flavours are so fresh and light, you’ll want to eat it again and again. For fish, the whole lemon sole with samphire and capes is perfectly cooked, light and tasty – a perfect combination, that just works. Honestly, I could not fault the food here.

And, of course, there’s dessert. And not just any dessert – inventive, fun, young desserts, that remind you of years gone by. There’s chocolate brownie with cornflake ice cream, which is so delicious, and cherry and almond custard tart, which is rich, creamy and divine.

Wine. So much wine. They have a fantastic wine list here, and a team that are friendly, clued-up and always happy to help find the perfect wine to match your food. There’s also some cracking cocktails, if you’re in a fruity mood, try the Watermelon Julep with fresh watermelon juice and Grey Goose Citron – it’s a taste of summer perfection.
