Eat Here: TaiBy Adam Hassanali
Nestled on Foxberry Road, easily accessible from London Bridge and from Canada Water), TAI is the true definition of a neighbourhood gem that’s well worth the trip. Since opening in 2019 under the guidance of Richard Poole (co‑founder of Slurp Thai, Dang’s, and with family roots in Rosa’s Thai), TAI brings treasured Southern Thai family recipes.
Step inside to find an 80’s minimalist interior: bamboo, exposed brick, and verdant greenery create a relaxed atmosphere. TAI’s décor is humble and practical—mirroring street‑side Thai cafés.
The menu is fun and purposefully relaxed for starters you can get yourself Hat Yai Chicken which is Southern‑Thai‑spiced, deep‑fried, golden and crunchy, served with sriracha—a crowd favourite, think Thai fried chicken with a bit of spice. While the Larb Patties are Juicy, herby minced‑chicken bites with roasted‑rice crunch and sweet‑chilli dip, these are full of flavour and very much. There are also the classics summer rolls and spring rolls if you are looking to go a bit more safe or fancy the veggie option
For mains you there is a Massaman Curry which is a comforting symphony of Silk‑Road spices, creamy cashews, and soft potatoes with chicken. The flavour and consistency of the sauce is great a nice thickness which help the meat flourish. One of the most recommended dishes is the Pad Thai the thai classic dish with a choice of protein made with homemade tamarind sauce, there is also an added perk that Tai give 50p to their charity partner FOR LIFE Thailand. If you’re a rice fan there are the classics jasmine, and sticky rice or if youre feeling a bit more adventurous there is Crab Fried Rice which is beach‑style comfort food with crab, egg, tomato, coriander, and lime beautiful .
Seasonal specials and small‑plate offerings shine too: calamari with chilli, prawn crackers dipped in fiery chilli oil, and dessert‑style mango with sticky rice round out the experience . With no formal wine list, drinks are served casually in tumblers—part of the unpretentious charm .
TAI is a rare find: authentic Southern Thai food, executed with love and served in a space that feels both relaxed and stylish. The dining room makes you feel like you’re in your mums dining room, Tai isnt pretentious or full of Instagramable interiors. What it does do is provide you with authentic cooking and flavoursome food. Tai is unapologetic in its cooking and isnt altered for British taste buds like some chains so please be warned spicy is another level at Tai, you have been warned. Everyone loves a neighbourhood gem so go check it out for a comfortable Saturday date night or a meal with friends.
