Nestled between the desirable properties of Primrose Hill lies a gem of a place: NuYu. Located on the corner of Kingstown Road and a 5 minutes stroll from the village-like scenes on Primrose’s main drag is a family run salon that have have been cutting locks for decades. Need a trim? A colour? Or fancy popping in for a skin treatment? It’s about time you booked your next appointment at NuYu.
NuYu: The Lowdown
NuYu is a lovely little place; forget your usual salon blueprint, the service at Nuyu is personal, approachable and friendly. Owner Sam and her team have created a calming oasis, and on my visit nothing was too much trouble. Calling NuYu a salon would be selling this place short – they’ve covered every beauty base going. On the hairdressing side, there’s a variety of treatments available: a quick colour, snappy highlights, Keratin treatments and hair extensions. And if your skin needs some TLC, the team, along with Dr Krystyna (one of London’s leading cosmetic dentists), provide a wealth of procedures like teeth whitening, skin brightening treatments, facials, chemical peels… the list goes on.
NuYu: Services
One of NuYu’s biggest assets, aside from the scissor skills, is the genuine warm and friendly atmosphere. It’s so refreshing to rock up to a place for the first time, and you’re not only welcomed like you’ve been friends for years, but there’s genuine interest about subjects that go above any beyond your next city break or the weather. If you need a hair cut – whether that’s a trim, a total transformation, or colour, Mel is the lady in the know.
Before you’ve even stepped in the chair, an in-depth consultation is taken, touching on all aspects of your lifestyle (what you can manage, hair care, etc). Mel is great for suggesting what cut would work well for your face shape, and will happily suggest a colour that’s suitable. I always have a slight itch about going to a new salon for colour, but honestly, I felt in safe hands. Trust me, a hair cut here, and a few cuppas later, you’ll walk out, as did I, with a happier and healthier barnet.
NuYu: The Verdict
Even if you’re not a north London resident, the journey is worth it. I not only left NuYu with a healthy hair and a top notch hair cut, but I also left feeling like I’ve spent a morning with a group of pals. You can’t the fault the service here; familiar, neighbourly and just a nice bunch of people.
