Making plans for brunch this weekend already? Of course you are. Wherever the night takes you, make sure you head to the South East (when you finally drag yourself out of bed), to feast on some heavenly brunches. Whether you’re looking to get your mouth round an indulgent juicy burger or just want a classic brunch with avo and eggs to sort your hangover, Peckham has it all.

1. For a Burger Brunch: Slow Richies

What: Under the arches of Peckham Rye train station, Slow Richies is a brother owned street food kitchen that has a permanent food residency at Brick Brewery – a craft beer microbrewery. Just a heads up: these guys like to put a little spicy kick in most dishes.

Eat and Drink: Making a comeback to the menu is the brunch burger. Made up of grilled Cumberland sausage, black pudding, tomato chutney, fried egg and Scotch bonnet crisps – yes, thats right, Scotch bonnet crisps. Served after 12pm, this burger isn’t for the faint hearted, packed with flavour it’s something to call on when you’ve got that hungover food craving inside of you. While you’re there, grab a pint at Brick Brewery. They’ve recently just refurbished the place, so make sure you check it out. After all, the best cure to a hangover is hair of the dog, right?

2. For a Meaty Brunch: Coal Rooms

What: Located literally next door to Peckham Rye station, Coal Rooms used to be the station’s former ticket office. A refined yet relaxed bar, restaurant and cafe offering a gutsy menu of meat and fish cooked over its bespoke charcoal grill and oven.

Eat and Drink: This brunch menu has a lot to offer and although the meat dishes are mouth-watering – the vegetarian dishes are equally delicious. If you have a meat-eating brunch partner in crime, then don’t even think twice about getting the full English for two. With smoked goat sausages, fat and back bacon, smoked pig’s head blood pudding, fried duck eggs, smoked bone marrow butter mushrooms, beef tomatoes and toast, there’s no wonder you need two of you to finish the plate. If you’re going for the veggie option, the chickpea taco will not disappoint.

What: The Peckham Refreshment Rooms is located in a 1930’s Art Deco block backing onto Peckham Rye Train Station. Breakfast starts at 10am at the weekend, offering you all the brunch staples you’re looking for.

Eat and Drink: Expect a classic breakfast menu done well. It’s got bacon sandwiches, eggs, sausages and avocado on toast. But if you’re looking for a lighter option their granola with yoghurt and honey is perfect. If you can’t make it in time for breakfast, the brunch menu is available from 11:30am where you can order a spicy bloody mary along with a salt beef sandwich with pickled cucumber and mustard. We’ll say no more.

Where: Unit 3 and 4, 12 to 16 Blenheim Grove, London SE15 4QL

4. For a Egg-cellent Brunch: Aneto Cafe

What: They recently moved next door to get some more space, and their new location offers an open terrace for an al fresco brunch along with great Italian coffee.

Eat and Drink: If you love eggs for bunch, this is the place for you. They have a choice of eggs Florentine, Benedict or royal as well as scrambled eggs with or without oak-smoked salmon on toasted brioche. But if you don’t fancy eggs this weekend, there is the veganeto breakfast – a plate full of plant-based goodness made up of hummus, spinach, mushrooms, roasted tomatoes, truffle oil and brown toast. Still not tickling your fancy? Try the kedgeree: long grain rice with haddock, hard boiled eggs and curry. Or you can always rely on their trusty avocado on sourdough toast.
