New Opening: Hacha, BrixtonBy Angelica Malin
Excellent news for South London cocktail lovers: award-winning agaveria bar Hacha is opening a second site in Brixton Market later this month.
Similar to the original site housed on Dalston’s Kingsland road, Hacha’s Brixton outpost boasts a larger capacity set across two floors; featuring a 50-cover bar and open kitchen set above the market plus a beautiful ground floor Mirror Margarita bottle shop – Hacha’s award-winning signature cocktail.
Promising to be more than just a bar, the venue will be closed once a week to run a free to all community day offering training, mentorship, talks, practical workshops and more in partnership with co-founder Deano’s not for profit organisation, Equal Measures, which provides tools for growth to under-represented BAME communities within the hospitality industry. Attendees will have free access to upskill, learn more about all areas of hospitality and gain vital skills and experience to give them greater chances of elevating their careers within the drinks industry.
Its signature cocktail, Mirror Margarita (which was named one of the top ten cocktails in the world by Time Out in 2019 and Cocktail of the Year at the industry-led CLASS Bar Awards in 2020) will also feature on the menu alongside the bar’s latest exciting new signature serve, La Bandera. The cocktail is Hacha’s twist on a classic but lesser-known Mexican cocktail, with the groundbreaking Hacha version made up of three individual mini cocktails each using a different agave spirit at its base to produce a visually stunning serve in the three colours of the Mexican flag.
Working with their longstanding and much-loved kitchen partners, Maiz Azul, Hacha Brixton will feature a number of the popular classic dishes we know and love from Dalston such as their Camote Tacos, Chicken Tinga and epic bar snack Cheese Chicharon but with a selection of brand new dishes specially created for the Brixton venue.
