The Run-down: Club Mexicana are the trailblazers on the vegan street food scene. Co-Founder Meriel Armitage left her job and retired from the world of advertising to jump into the kitchen and set about changing the perception of vegan food in London; alongside her partner Lois, Club Mexicana was born. Inspired by the diverse food scene in cities including LA, New York and San Francisco, Meriel set out to capture the vibrancy of Mexican food. And boy, the food they serve is legendary. The jackfruit burrito is an AT favourite – hunky, hearty and totally moreish.

The Run-down: Grace Regan is the curry connoisseur behind Spice Box. A healthy, Indian vegan stall banging out incredibly aromatic daals, curries and tandoori cauliflower steaks that will make your weep with meat-free joy. There’s no nasties, added preservatives, or refined sugar – it’s just good, solid wholesome food. The spinach and turmeric daal makes your local curry houses’ version look like a sad, oily mess. The Run-down: London’s best vegan street food for when you fancy something different. What do you get when you mix Ghanian food with some of the friendliest staff in Brixton? You end up with Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen, you’re one stop shop for home spun, home cooked West African food. Zoe’s Ghana Kitchen will feed you up like your overbearing aunt at Christmas – you love her for it, but you just don’t know when to stop. Their hand-cut plantain chips are, without doubt, a taste sensation. In keeping with the plantain theme, try the plantain pancakes with the bean stew. Man, we love Zoe and her kitchen powers.

Order: Caribbean Roti – Caribbean sunrise, plantain, angel greens, avocado and hot dressing.

The Run-down: Rainbow Creations is a pillar of the vegan community. Ingo and Khi are the plant powered duo behind the most colourful food stall in the capital. The partnership was brought together for their passion for all things great, inspiring and innovative. The stall is piled high with vegan munch including their lentil burger with angel kale, chickpeas, and tropical slaw. And their rainbow hummus is smashed to utter perfection.

Order: Vegan boom cha – sticky tofu double dipped in a Vietnamese sauce and Asian basil chutney in sesame-infused rice buns.

The Run-down: London’s best vegan street food in our books. Sticky Bundits is a family affair, lead by sibling duo Mark and Chris, and Chris’ Husband, Munish. The team’s love of bold flavours and experimenting with cuisine from far-flung destinations made them set up street-food stall, Sticky Bundits. They’ve taken two well loved dishes, sushi and burgers, to create their famed sushi burger. Ditching bread for sticky rice, the chaps’ burgers are bursting with exciting flavours, texture and colour combinations.

The Run-down: Yes. Temple of Seitan have opened a bricks and mortar site named Temple of Hackney. But these guys started as a street food stall; and not to include them on this list would just be plain wrong. Temple of Seitan have made waves this year by opening the first vegan ‘chicken’ shop in London – the team are seriously turning up the heat (coconut oil) on the vegan offering in the capital. As the name suggests, Temple of Seitan specialise in one product: seitan. If you’re not familiar with seitan, it’s derived from the protein portion of wheat. Take a bite of their crispy, fried seitan doused in house dressing and nestle in a fluffy bap, and tell us that it doesn’t taste good.

The Run-down: London’s best vegan street food when you need something healthy and delicious. Rupert’s Street hit up the roads of London in their pimped up catering van dishing up their famed vegan numbers. They’re all about the healthy life, championing meat-less dishes that are seasonal, fresh and organic where possible. Their menu changes from month to month – but expect to chow down on squash and lentil curry served with brown rice and home made chutney, beetroot and chickpea burgers, and sweet potato and celeriac cottage pie. And, there’s also plenty of vegan cakes to go round too.

The Run-down: Hot, hot dang. Cook Daily is everything you could dream of, and quite possible more when it comes to South Asian inspired vegan fare. This Boxpark favourite is thee place to go for your noodle soup and coconut curry fix. And their full English with tofu scramble, tomatoes, greens, vegan sausages and bacon, and house brown sauce will raise a smile in your most most darkest of hangover days.

The Run-down: Who says vegans can’t have their kebab and eat it too? Well, at What The Pitta they certainly can. These guys are relatively new on the vegan street food scene, setting up their digs at Pump Shoreditch last year. But word about What The Pitta travelled like hot non-meat products, and their vegan doner kebabs are legendary (so much so that they’re opening at Boxpark Croydon soon). A warmed tortilla is crammed full of spiced soy chunks, shredded salad, hummus, homemade tzatziki and chilli sauce. Bonus: you don’t need to be inebriated to consume one.

The Run-down: Ruby’s of London bake cakes that are free from gluten, sugar, and animal products. But they’re not free-from taste, we’ll tell you that for free. From brownies to doughnuts and cupcakes; Ruby’s of London stock some of the finest vegan sweet treats around.  The gooey chocolate rocky road cookies and red velvet loaves should be at the top of your hit list. And their show stopping cakes would make Mary Berry proud.

The Run-Down: Italian food may not be the most vegan friendly; hot cheesy garlic bread, boards of meaty antipasti, and creamy pasta sauces, but the team at Just Fab rustle up vegan Italian bites that would make your Grandma Norma dig in for seconds. Converting an old double decker bus into a restaurant, the gals and guys have a menu full of dishes including their epic lasagne, pasta tofu, and their vegan tiramisu.

Order: Classic Falafel Wrap – served with hummus, fried aubergines, fresh tomatoes, pickled turnips, pickled cucumbers, lettuce and parsley.

The Run-Down: Shepherd’s Bush is home to a melting pot of Middle Eastern grocers and restaurants, with Mr Falafel head and shoulders above the rest. Situated in the Aladdin’s Cave that is Shepherd’s Bush Market, head straight to this street-food hut for a friendly smile and killer falafel. You’ll probably spend half your lunch break queueing, but believe us – it’s totally worth it. Their extra large falafel wrap is enough to feed a family of five. Twice over.

The Run-Down: Vegan Italian foodie Sara ditched the slow pace of Italy for the London life. Cooking up traditional Italian food that she grew up with in her home in Italy, Sara has managed to win over the hungry punters at Brick Lane market with her comfort bites. Think gluten-free polenta ‘cheese’ rolls, buddha bowls with Italian lentil stew, homemade panettone with vanilla custard. The vegan matcha and orange Twix bars are too dreamy to miss.

Order: Lean Vegan Machine – sautéed mini potatoes, garlic rice, slow-cooked red beans, guacamole, sweet fried plantains, balsamic red cabbage on a bed of mixed leaves with toasted pumpkin seeds, spring onion, fresh chillies, red onion salad and fresh coriander.

The Run-Down: Oh baby baby. Maize Blaze is quite frankly blazing (sorry) through London’s street food scene. After a recent residency at Pitfield Cafe, and a regular on the festival circuit – founder, and Queen of the grills, Ruth Christianson has set up shop at KERB Camden Market. The lean vegan machine box is everything you could want from a jazzed up salad – fresh, vibrant and so, so delicious.

The Run-Down: Magic Falafel is certainly magical. Don’t ask us how they do it – but their falafel wraps will send your tastebuds on a Harry Potter-esque journey full of flavour and delight. Everything is made onsite from the condiments down to the pickles, and salads. There’s two reasons to visit Magic Falafel: great conversations with the staff, and their falafel wraps are just quasi-religious.
