The Run-Down: Five-star Hotel Aurelio are opening new chalets this summer: The Arula Chalets and Chalet Mimi. Comprising of two-interconnecting chalets that cover an expansive 2,400m2, the Arula Chalets are boasted to be one of the most impressive properties in the Austrian Alps. You can rent either as two separate properties – each of considerable size with their own spas, cinema rooms and sun terraces – or as a combined large chalet sleeping up to 30 people across 13 ensuite bedrooms. After a day embracing the mountains; the expansive spas in each chalet await where you’ll be able to relax aching muscles with a holistic treatment of your choice. Each chalet has a private chef to deliver delicious culinary creations. From signature fondues and international dishes, to traditional Austrian cuisine and family sharing-style dinners; they’ll have you sorted on one of the best dining experiences out there.
The Run-Down: Less hipster, more hygge, the five-bedroom Chalet Mimi combines authentic design with traditional elegance to create the ultimate cosy chalet. Spread across four floors with floor to ceiling glass, Chalet Mimi offers luxurious comfort in abundance as well as outstanding location with panoramic views of the surrounding aluminous green mountains. For those who like to relax after a day of Lech’s legendary outdoors, what better way to unwind than
watching the sun set as you stretch out on the terrace for a one-on-one yoga class. You can also arrange in-house massages and other pampering treatments whilst on stay.
The Run-Down: This summer sees the unveiling of Calilo, a secluded 5-star hotel and spa estate on the unspoilt island of Ios that promises to raise the laid-back-luxury bar higher than anywhere else in the Greek islands. Calilo’s 27 stunning suites, with private pools, private ponds with waterfalls, and picture-perfect sea views, are scattered throughout a quiet 1,100 acre valley and overlook the spectacular 300-metre long sandy Papas beach – considered to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Greece. Well away from prying eyes, the resort’s remote setting which stretches from seashore to hilltop and everything in between, is matched by a generous array of chill out zones, bars, restaurants and activities, as well as a wellness spa – a place to relax and revitalise.
The Run-Down: In the historic Andalucian White Town of Vejer de la Frontera (Vejer) is the opening, in mid July, of Plaza 18, of a brand new six-bedroom luxury hotel set in a listed 19th Century merchant’s house – beautifully restored and designed by Nicky Dobree, an award-winning internationally recognised interior architect and designer. Plaza 18 guests have the choice of relaxing in the shady central courtyard, the large double fronted sitting room with an imposing fireplace, on one of the breakfast terraces or on the large roof terrace with the most spectacular views. Views from the six en suite bedrooms (one of them also with a sitting room) are either across the town or of the nature reserve, the Parque Natural las Marismas, while the top floor room has views to the beaches of the Costa de la Luz, 10kms away. On a clear day the Tangiers coast of Morocco can be seen.
The Run-Down: Mama Shelter is bringing its unique brand of accessible hospitality to London with the launch of the new hotel, Mama London, opening this September in Hackney – a short walk from Cambridge Heath and Bethnal Green stations. Rooms here start from £99 making Mama London the ultimate affordable boutique hotel with an effervescent and provocative personality. In keeping with the brand’s playful philosophy, Mama London interprets the spirit of its location through the design, while offering guests a well-priced option from which to explore the city. Mama London houses 195 rooms in total, where the emphasis is on simplicity with style, focusing on king size beds, 5-star bedding linen alongside cutting-edge design elements.
The Run-Down: Set in a Victorian House perched on the breath-taking Cornish coastal town of Port Isaac, Stargazy Inn, boasts nine stylish bedrooms which have recently been refurbished offering a chic feel, luxurious Egyptian cotton sheets with stunning sea views to match. One of the country’s most innovative and ambitious young chefs, Andrew Sheridan, has recently taken the helm of the luxury destination’s fine-dining restaurant. The restaurant is the latest addition to a thriving culinary scene in the locale, firmly establishing itself as a gastronomic destination showcasing Andrew’s signature style with intriguing flavours and textures, cooked with flair and creativity to create a truly memorable dining experience. Feast on dishes from their new bar menu which features Sheridan’s takes on Cornish classics as well as a showcasing his signature style with delicious tasting and a la carte menus featuring the likes of Newlyn Torched Mackerel with Tomato & Basil, Tempura Oysters with Pickled Vegetables & Parsley, and Great British Menu Banana Rice Pudding with Pickled Berries & Hay Ice Cream.
The Run-Down: One of the best hotel openings in Europe this summer; Lefay Resort & SPA Dolomiti is the brand new luxury eco-spa retreat opening its doors in the lush woodland of Pinzolo in the Dolomites on 1st August. The hotel will house one of the biggest spas in the Dolomites spanning over 5,000sqm across four floors. As a spa-user you will find nine different saunas, a World of Water and Fire and indoor and outdoor pools. Spa therapies have been designed to blend classic Chinese medicine principles with modern Western research, meaning post-hiking and post-skiing treatments are healing and restorative. In the hotel, the Grual Organic Restaurant serves delicious Italian meals that are made with local, sustainably sourced produce whilst the bedrooms were created to recreate the atmosphere of the Dolomites inside. The bedrooms here are wide with plenty of open space, daylight and natural materials.
The Run-Down: Set in the heart of London, Strand Palace is just a short walk from Covent Garden and the River Thames, making it an idyllic location for guests looking to indulge in London’s cultural scene. Already known as one of London’s most iconic hotels, The Strand Palace, is undergoing a large-scale renovation in order to transform it into a one of a kind lifestyle destination for business and leisure guests. The hotel’s renovation is well underway and on schedule, with the new lobby completed in April. As part of the rejuvenation, the hotel will be unveiling a brand new restaurant and dining concept this summer plus the addition of a private dining room. New restaurant and bar Haxells will be an all-day dining affair and doubles as the perfect spot for a cocktail after a long day in the capital. They will showcase modern British cuisine dishes, including sharing platters of British charcuterie and cheeseboards. They’re also offering a wide variety of mains, featuring Grilled Marinated Tuna, Superfood Salad, Asparagus Risotto, to well-known British classics such as Beer Battered Fish & Chips, Shepherd’s Pie and Sticky Toffee Pudding.
