Attend This: Too Many Critics – In Aid of Action Against HungerBy Angelica Malin
For one night only, the nation’s most opinionated eaters will put down their pens and pick up the pans.
On 16th June, Too Many Critics returns for its 18th edition at Roe, the annual charity dinner helping to raise vital funds for Action Against Hunger; the world’s leading charity providing life-saving treatment and care to millions of people suffering from life-threatening hunger in over 50 countries, with this year’s edition aiming to do the same.
This year’s line-up will see food critics Tom Parker Bowles (Mail on Sunday), Leonie Cooper (Time Out), David Ellis (The London Standard), Molly Codyre (Foodism), Kate Krader (Bloomberg), Hannah Twiggs (Independent) and Adam Hyman (CODE and The Good Food Guide) move away from their desks and into the kitchen for one night only, as they cook a 5-course dinner for a room full of guests and a host of chefs-turned-judges, to raise funds and awareness for Action Against Hunger.
Critics will be tasked with cooking signature dishes from both Roe and Fallow St. James’s, championing modest and underused British ingredients and showcasing the restaurants’ zero-waste philosophy. These dishes include: Devon crab with courgette, almond, kaffir lime, horseradish; British octopus flatbread with Wildfarmed sourdough, crispy chilli, pickled lemon; Spiced lamb skewer with smoked onion yoghurt, hot honey, onion, tomato; Roe Surf & Turf with grilled lobster tail, 35-day aged beef fillet, lobster boulangere, shellfish butter, red wine sauce; and Caramelised banana parfait with peanut, toasted vanilla, banana skin tuile.
It’s all in aid of Action Against Hunger, with live and silent auctions offering dinners at restaurants like Moor Hall, The Ninth and Wildflowers, as well as one-offs like a home-cooked feast by Joe Laker of Counter 71.
Tickets are priced at £250 per person and will include a four-course meal with matching wines from Liberty Wines, and a Taittinger Champagne reception with canapes. Tickets are on sale now via the Action Against Hunger website here.
