Luna2 first opened its doors back in April 2013, in fashionable Seminyak, Bali. With spacious studio rooms, a modernist 60’s vibe and out-of-this-world levels of service, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were bedding down on a spaceship.

Luna2: The Lowdown

Everything feels very James Bond; London chic blended with a dash of the absurd. With smartly dressed PamAm-esque hotel staff and the crisp, clean minimalist décor, it feels a bit like what one would imagine staying in a ‘hotel of the future’ may have looked like in the 1960’s.

Luna2: The Accommodation

We stayed in Bond Street (all of the studios are named after some of London’s smartest postcodes – Mayfair, Strand, Piccadilly, Bond Street). The room overlooks the 25m Mondrian-style colour-blocked lap pool, perfect for whiling away the lazy hours of sun-soaked mid-November days… until it starts to rain. But Luna2 has all bases covered, and with rain comes the perfect excuse to spend the afternoon watching a film in the ultra-plush Lunaplex 16-seat cinema, where we kicked back and watched a classic Bond film with popcorn.

We spent our first evening at Space Champagne & Caviar – a rooftop bar designed with the sole purpose of enjoying the sunset, champagne and cocktails to kill for. This is the place to kick back with a smoking (literally!) negroni, oysters and the ultimate panoramic ocean view.

Luna2: The Food

The award-winning Orbit restaurant, with a world-class wine list enough to make any connoisseur drool, was a playful delight. We enjoyed a delicious take on ‘tinned salmon’ to start and a substantial poached sea bass with lobster tortellini and lobster bisque to follow. Dessert was perfectly bitter-sweet chocolate fondue. A ludicrously rich truffle cheese board followed, to make sure we safely fell into a food coma before bed.

Luna2: The Verdict

Luna2 is the perfect enclave for a couple or family wanting to escape the hustle of Seminyak for a few days. The hotel is secluded, and far away from the bustley main drag, and has everything you could wish for. A spa, pool bar, cinema, cosy yet lavish room – and you are still only a two minute walk away from the beach. Every design element of the hotel has taken the greatest care to ensure that it is true to the hotel’s mantra – ‘future, nostalgia and fun’. From the 60s style remote controllers used to beckon the hostess’ attention by the pool, to the Apollo 13 style cocktails; Luna2 will make you feel like you’ve stepped into the set of Mad Men, and you may find you never want to leave.
