When we asked you, lovely readers, what you’d like to read more about on the site, we were inundated with one answer: burgers. But we’re not just talking about the classic cheeseburger, oh no – we’re talking about bacon cheeseburgers. We travelled to the ends of the earth (Peckham and beyond) to discover some of the best cheeseburgers in London. In no particular order:

1. For a Work of Art: Burger Bear

best cheeseburgers in london, best bacon cheeseburgers in london, cheeseburgers in london, bacon burgers in london, best burgers in london

Order: Grizzly Bear – cheeseburger topped with double oak smoked bacon and Burger Bear bacon jam.

The Lowdown: Burger Bear are without doubt the kings of the biggest and meatiest burgers around, yet still deliver on quality and taste. The bunch here are proud supporters of keeping it south, and all of their beef is from Flock & Herd, Peckham’s finest butcher who are big on sustainability. The Grizzly Bear burger is enormous and will keep you full for hours. Often the way with larger burgers, the taste doesn’t match up to the size – but at Burger Bear this is definitely not the case. Every mouthful is an explosions of flavours, with the last bite still as tasty as the first.

Don’t Miss: If there’s one reason to visit Burger Bear (apart from the burgers) it’s to taste their home-made bacon jam. We don’t know what they put in it, but we don’t care. It tastes damn good and that’s all you need know.

Order: Cheese and Bacon Burger – 45-day aged beef patty, double American cheese, pickled onion, bacon and smokey mayo.

The Lowdown: Burger and Beyond have got a very good thing going on, with one of the best cheeseburgers in London. They dish out some incredible burgers from their Citroen H Van across the city, and now you can find them at KERB Camden and Dinerama too. Drawing inspiration from the US and elsewhere, Burger and Beyond have created a range of burgers that will knock your socks off. Is there a better combination of American cheese, sensational beef and crispy bacon? We think not.

Don’t Miss: Once you’ve tried their cheeseburger tater tots; you’ll never want fries ever again.

3. For Candied Bacon: Mother Flipper

best cheeseburgers in london, best bacon cheeseburgers in london, cheeseburgers in london, bacon burgers in london, best burgers in london

Order: Bacon Swiss – Swiss cheese, candy bacon, candy onions, BBQ sauce and ranch mayo.

The Lowdown: Certainly not your bog standard burger van; serving up mouth-watering combinations like the Double Candy Bacon Flipper and Mushroom Swiss Flipper, it’s no surprise that Mother Flipper have a cult following. Each of their burgers come in a shiny demi-brioche bun and come with some knock-out condiments like pepper jack cheese and even their own special sauce. One of the best cheeseburgers in London, without a doubt.

Don’t Miss: Make sure you try the candied bacon, it’s out of this world.

4. For a Fruity Burger: Bunsmiths at The Millers

Order: The Hawaiian Bun – aged beef patty, baby leaf spinach, smoked bacon, Monterey Jack cheese, BBQ sauce, and pineapple and chilli salsa.

The Lowdown: We’ve waxed lyrical about Bunsmiths in the past, but we don’t care if we sound like a stuck record; their burgers are banging. Meat is of the highest quality, and they aren’t frugal with the sauces. Pineapple doesn’t belong on a pizza, but it belongs on a burger. Controversial, we know – but the sweet fruit, the hot salsa and the crisp, salty bacon works. And the buttermilk fried chicken burger is sublime.

Don’t Miss: The tripled-cooked chips and coleslaw should also be ordered, and if you’re feeling hungry, throw in the onion rings for good measure too.

Order: El Chappo – aged beef patty, smoked bacon, roasted jalapeños, blue cheese and aioli (£6.95).

The Lowdown: We first stumbled across The Lucky Chip on a boozy Saturday afternoon in summer down at The Queen’s Head. From then, we’ve never looked back. Here, expect quirky flavours like the duck, veal and marrow patty with foie gras or the Royale with cheese with their home-made special sauce. Glance around the place and you’ll see people nodding in appreciation towards these exceptional burgers, before inhaling another bite. One of the best cheesebugers in London; o need for knives and forks when you have hands.

Don’t Miss: White poultry fan? Go wild for the buffalo wings with blue cheese dressing.

Order: Honest – beef, red onion relish, smoked bacon, mature cheddar, pickled cucumber and lettuce (£10.95)

The Lowdown: Honest burgers have hit the big time with their meaty sandwiches. The burgers here are simple, tasty and well, honest. The easy to navigate menu features a small selection of burgers, using only the finest British produce that aren’t ruined by unnecessary toppings. If you’re after a good, solid well made burger the Honest Burger takes a lot of beating. If you’re coeliac, pay an extra quid and you can have your burger with a gluten-free bun.

Don’t Miss: You can’t miss them because all burgers are served with their sensational rosemary salt chips. Take said chips and get dunking into their baconaise – dreamy AF.

Order: Bacon cheeseburger – beef, American cheese, onion, bacon and sauce (£7).

The Lowdown: After getting hooked on the burger scene Stateside, Zan Kaufman set up Bleecker St. in 2012 with the aim of dishing up some of the best burgers in London. And we can confirm that the burgers at Bleecker St. burgers put other to shame. They use rare-breed, pasture-fed beef that has been dry-aged for about forty to fifty days, to give a rich, intense flavour. No nonsense, no fuss – just delicious burgers cooked right and served with either cheese AND bacon. A simple burger done very, very well.

Don’t Miss: Enjoy the best of both worlds with their fries mix: sweet potato and normal fries. Genius.

Order: Bacon Cheese – aged beef patty, cream cheese aioli, bacon, brie and crispy onion (duo for £8.50).

The Lowdown: There’s something so special about mini burgers. Don’t ask us why, but mini burgers are pretty exciting. Maybe it’s the dainty buns, maybe it’s the cute burgers – who knows. What we do know is that burgers at Bite Me Burger Co are what your stomach needs. The cheese and bacon burger boasts two cheeses, and that’s something we appreciate. You can order a dozen burgers if you like, and you don’t have to even leave your sofa, because they have a delivery service.

Don’t Miss: The Bloody Mary burger is like a kick in the face (flavourwise). A grilled beef patty is topped with horseradish, onion, cheddar cheese and secret Bloody Mary sauce.

Order: Bacon n’ Cheese – classic Chuck cheeseburger topped with bacon (£7.50).

The Lowdown: From the team that brought us Hotbox in Shoreditch, Chuck Burger is a real labour of love. Inspired by founder Basit Nasim’s travels across America, the menu has been developed over time, guided by his favourite recipes from across the pond, using the freshest British ingredients. It’s a total favour explosion. The burgers are beautifully cooked, the restaurant pumps out big beats, and they can throw together a decent cocktail; you can’t go wrong at Chuck Burger.

Don’t Miss: Don’t miss the Hot-Ox – aged chuck beef patty topped with slow cooked spicy oxtail chili, American cheese, onions, pickles and chipotle mayo. It’s beefin’ wonderful.

Order: Don’t Go Bacon My Heart – aged beef patty, cheddar, smoked streaky bacon, maple bacon aioli, crushed pecan nuts and lettuce (£10).

The Lowdown: Star of Kings looks like its done a couple of rounds in the ring. And while the decor may seem on the drab side, the burgers certainly aren’t. Yeah! Burger are the masters of beef. What they whip up in their kitchen is nothing short of a meaty masterpiece. The patties are made with high-grade beef and the squishy buns, and maple bacon aioli sets our heart rate racing. If you’ve never been to Yeah!Burger, you’re missing out.

Don’t Miss: Nothing is out of bounds for the Yeah! Burger lads. They’ve been known to sell a chicken fried Scotch egg cheeseburger, along with burgers in Scotch eggs.

Order: Smokey Robinson Burger – beef patty, cheese, tomato, lettuce, mounds of caramelised onions, bacon, ketchup, smokey P&B mayo in a brioche bun (£9).

The Lowdown: With their latest outpost open in Notting Hill and no doubt more openings in the pipeline, these guys are spawning like rabbits. And for good reason. Where else will you find sloppy burgers crammed full of tangy sauces and fresh ingredients, as well as brisket nuggets drizzled with kimchi mayo? This place requires you to get down and dirty, so tie your hair back and munch through a glorious burger of melted cheese, bacon and smokey mayo.

Don’t Miss: Their cheese balls are basically fancy mozzarella sticks – but they’ll make your tastebuds sing. And the XXX hot sauce… oh my.

12. For a Cheesy Burger: The Backstreet Diner

Order: Blue cheese and Bacon – Dexter beef, smoked Gloucester old spot bacon, blue cheese, red onion, gherkin, iceberg, burger sauce and a brioche bun (£7).

The Lowdown: Backstreet Diner located behind Liverpool Street Station boasts all the qualities of a burger van found in a lay by on a duel carriageway, but what they produce tastes way better. Let’s talk cheese, because the burgers at The Backstreet Diner are not topped with a slice, it’s a thick wedge. Blue cheese is an underrated cheese, especially when it comes to burgers. And it’s great with bacon and beef.

Don’t Miss: Keep your eyes peeled on their special items menu which changes from time to time. Deep-fried Brussels sprouts have made an appearance.

Where: 51 Clifton Street, London EC2A 4EY

13. For a Gravy Burger: Dip and Flip

best cheeseburgers in london, best bacon cheeseburgers in london, cheeseburgers in london, bacon burgers in london, best burgers in london

Order: Bacon Cheeseburger (£8.20)

The Lowdown: Opened in 2013, Dip & Flip concentrate on two things: great gravy and meat packed sandwiches. Eaten alone are great, eaten together taste even better. Their burgers are a good solid choice for dinner, but for something with extra pizzazz, dip that burger in gravy. All of their burgers are cooked on an American chrome flat grill to give an added smokey flavour that we really dig.

Don’t Miss: If you’re still wanting more gravy, they serve their chips topped with cheese, gravy, crispy bacon and green chilli. Go wild.

14. For a Street Food Favourite: Black Bear Burger

Order: Bacon Cheeseburger – aged beef patty, beef trimming glaze, cheese, roasted tomato and onion jam, pancetta bacon and smoked garlic mayo.

The Lowdown: Black Bear Burger is next level (insert fire emojis here). What we’re talking about is British beef covered in homemade condiments, punchy garlic mayo, and some token salad – all cushioned between a sesame seed bap. It’s something else. People travel far and wide to Broadway Market on Saturdays to get their paws on this beauty, and we don’t blame them. Whatever the weather, these guys always bring out the sunshine.

Don’t Miss: Their brunch burger is unashamedly indulgent. 8hr slow cooked pulled pork is lovingly topped with Bloody Mary sauce, fried egg, bacon and smashed avocado.

Where: Broadway Market, London

15. For a Messy Burger: MEATLiquor

Order: Bacon Cheeseburger – beef patty, cheese, bacon, red onions, pickles, lettuce, french’s mustard and ketchup (£8.75)

The Lowdown: MEATLiquor’s choice of lighting is questionable (there’s barely any), but we can look past their electrical faults when their burgers are bites of meaty joy. When the staff plonk down a kitchen roll on your table, you know things are about to get serious. Everyone bangs on about their Dead Hippie burger, but it’s their Bacon Cheeseburger than has stolen our hearts on numerous occasions. The combination of bacon, red onions and French’s mustard is unbeatable. Just don’t go here on a date, because the chances of meat juices dribbling down your chin is pretty high.

Don’t Miss: Try the boozy milkshakes.

16. For a Jamaican Burger: Boom Burger

best cheeseburgers in london, best bacon cheeseburgers in london, cheeseburgers in london, bacon burgers in london, best burgers in london

Order: Boom Burger – beef patty topped with cheese and bacon jam.

The Lowdown: Bringing over the Jamaican flavours to London, owner Josh has fused explosive spice combinations with the highest class, British-bred meat to create some fantastic burgers. The signature Boom Burger hides something truly wonderful beneath its shiny brioche lid: bacon jam. The mixture of bacon, maple syrup and scotch bonnet chillies, cooked down to a thick treacle and slathered onto an organic beef patty almost as thick as it is wide is dynamite.

Don’t Miss: Sack off the normal chips for the plantain fries; sweet, succulent and right nice.

Where: 272 Portobello Rd, London W10 5TY

17. For a High-Street Hero: Shake Shack

Order: Smokeshack – cheeseburger topped with British free-range Wiltshire smoked bacon, lettuce, chopped cherry peppers and ShakeSauce (£7.50).

The Lowdown: Shake Shack have been there in times of need; when nothing will help ease the hangover except meat and carbs, they’re an excellent breakfast choice at Dubai Airport (no judgement please), and they’re always there when you need your burger fill. The Smokestack does what it says on the tin; great bun, rich patty, crispy bacon and a healthy amount of ShakeSauce.

Don’t Miss: Concretes. Oh gosh, their concrete creations. Order the union shake, a blend of frozen chocolate custard with St JOHN Bakery chocolate hazelnut brownie, MAST brothers chocolate chunks and sea salt.
