Not content with just a bag of Mini Eggs? We hear you. From blowout five course dinners to fish suppers and Easter themed afternoon teas – here’s our top foodies picks for Easter 2017 in the capital:

1. For a Five Course Dinner: Avista at Millennium Mayfair

What: Celebrate Easter with Avista’s Italian five-course dinner created by the restaurant’s Executive Chef, Arturo Granato. Inspired by his Italian heritage and experience of different regional ingredients and dishes from around his home country, Granato has created a fresh, seasonal and modern take on traditional Italian fare.

Eat and Drink: Prosecco and canapes will kick off the menu, followed by traditional Italian dishes including cured salami; broad beans; egg and bread; lamb served with grilled artichoke and aged pecorino; and the traditional Italian Easter cake, Easter Colomba – a combination of Italian breads pandoro and panettone.

Price: The five-course menu costs £49 per person. A sommelier is also available to match wines to each course for £34 per person.

2. For Afternoon Tea: Fortnum & Mason

What: Swing by Fortnum & Mason’s famous Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon for their unique afternoon tea created especially for this special occasion. Available until Easter Monday (17th April), it’s the perfect way to spend time with friends and family in the city.

Eat and Drink: Indulge in sweet treats including red velvet macaroons; elderflower panna cotta; a hazelnut chocolate sphere; rose éclairs; and orange and chocolate mousse. These can be enjoyed in true Fortnum’s fashion with finger sandwiches; buttery scones; exemplary tea; and chilled champagne.

For an extra sweet treat, head down to the Parlour for a decadent Easter egg sundae – an ice cream creation of chocolossus and vanilla ice cream garnished with raspberry marshmallow, chocolate sauce, chocolate bird’s nest, easter lollipop, jelly beans and chocolate eggs (£12).

3. For an Indian Feast: Gymkhana

What: Michelin starred Gymkhana is offering an alternative Easter Sunday roast. Found on Albermarle Street, close to JKS Group’s sister restaurant Trishna, this Michelin-starred restaurant has a strong focus on chatpatta and sharing dishes. Enjoy their special Hunter’s spring menu tucked away in one of Gymkhana’s signature oak booths.

Eat and Drink: Dishes featured on the hunter’s spring menu include madurai duck oothapum; asparagus koshambir; wild garlic sambol; a tandoori mixed grill; and a dum lamb shank biryani. This is finished with a dessert of saffron and pistachio kulfi falooda.

Price: The hunter’s spring menu is priced at £80 per person excluding drinks. Wine pairing is an extra £60.

4. For a Three Course Meal: Galvin at The Athenaeum

What: Executive Chef William Lloyd-Baker has designed a three course menu that will be available on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday. With her Royal Highness as The Athenaeum’s neighbour, make the most of the long weekend with a post-lunch stroll through the royal parks.

Eat and Drink: Two courses from the set menu includes a choice of starters such as Everleigh farm asparagus with hollandaise, or air dried ham with celeriac remoulade, followed by hearty roast lamb with all of trimmings. For dessert treat yourself to the Gariguette strawberry Eton mess.

5. For Italian Eats: Palatino

What: It is impossible to overstate how important Easter is to Rome, it’s fitting that Palatino, Stevie Parle’s much praised homage to the Eternal City is marking the occasion with a superb celebratory feast. Served from noon until 4pm on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

Eat and Drink: This four course gastronomic extravaganza is spearheaded by traditional seasonal dishes – a symbol of rebirth and the new spring. Dishes include abbachio al forno, slow cooked young lamb with roast potatoes and artichokes. Choose from a selection of starters such as salt cod and squashed tomatoes; zucchini flowers and honey vinegar; a pasta dish (including Palatino’s now legendary bucatini carbonara); and desserts such as homemade straciatella ice cream.

Price: £35 per person, inclusive of an Aperol Spritz on arrival.

6. For Easter Bites: Sanderson

What: This Easter, the Mad Hatter’s Afternoon Tea at Sanderson is getting an egg-cellent holiday weekend makeover. Served on the hotel’s outdoor terrace, the afternoon tea is the ideal pitstop on a sunny London afternoon.

Eat and Drink: Take the entire family to enjoy sweet bites and classic savouries plus a special bunny Easter cake created for the celebration, all washed down with Alice In Wonderland inspired teas and a glass of Perrier-Jouet Champagne.

7. For Meat Madness: Smith and Wollensky

What: Bring together friends and family for a slap up four course Easter feast at Smith & Wollensky. Prepare yourself for a ton of meat, booze and good times.

Eat and Drink: Starters include the seared chilli and garlic shrimp; burrata and heirloom tomato salad; and ham hock terrine. Also bursting with seasonal produce, mains include roast leg of English lamb served with Dauphinoise potatoes, a dollop of mint sauce and fresh vegetables; line-caught cod fillet with fennel and Vermouth Beurre Blanc; and the house speciality, USDA sirloin steak served with French fries and creamed spinach. Dessert items include the rhubarb and strawberry lattice pie with cinnamon anglaise; baked New York cheesecake;  followed by chocolate dipped almonds in coconut macaroon nests for petits four.

8. For Seasonal Dishes: Baileys Hotel

What: Indulge in a selection of Easter specials at Baileys Hotel, a sophisticated neighborhood eatery known for its authentic Italian dishes.

Eat and Drink: Feast on Easter specials including lamb saddle stuffed with artichoke and basil; paccheri with gurnard and peas ragout; and a chocolate Easter egg with hazelnut mousse.

9. For Pizza and Prosecco: Bunga Bunga 

What: The long Easter weekend means one thing: Bunga Bunga’s bank holiday supper club is back.  Celebrate Easter the Italian way with two hours of prosecco and pizza. Oh yeah.

Eat and Drink: Along with their pizza and prosecco deal available on Easter Sunday, there’s also a bargain offer you simple can’t miss.  If you’ve over indulged on chocolate this Easter, why not trade the cocoa for crusts on Easter Monday. Offering a welcome alternative from the typically sweet seasonal snacks populating supermarket shelves, the plates of pizza will also be flying out of ovens for just £1. Offering a bellissimo end to the long weekend, the Englishman’s Italian will be dishing out the bargain pizzas from 6pm on Monday.

10. For Latino Dishes: Asia de Cuba

What: The prime place for a celebration, Asia de Cuba at St Martins Lane can accommodate the whole family this Easter with a three-course Chino-Latino menu. Perfect for those who wish to experience something a little different to the classic British roast dinner, Asia de Cuba is offering a unique Cuban variation served with signature Asian-fusion sides.

Eat  and Drink: Available for lunch and dinner on Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, choose between El Lechon and El Lambchon, a Cuban-style slow roasted pork or lamb, served with maduros, black beans, fried rice, Chinese eggplant, plantain fricassee and Thai chilli chimichurri. Accompanying the roast is a selection of ceviches and salads, from which guests can choose a dish each.

11. For a Sunday Lunch: Fenchurch at Sky Garden

What: Elevate your Easter Sunday lunch and treat yourself to an unforgettable feast at Fenchurch, Sky Garden’s fine-dining restaurant soaring 37 levels above London.

Eat and Drink: Fenchurch is offering a three-course set menu, with dishes showcasing the very best of the new season. Starters include pickled artichoke salad with heritage courgette, preserved lemon, basil and London air-dried ham, and first of the season English asparagus and a Dorset crab velouté. Mains are Goodwood Estate lamb with ewe’s cheese, charred onions, peas and hispi cabbage, and Peterhead cod with sprouting broccoli, anchovies and red wine jus. And for pudding there’s warm almond cake topped with fresh green almonds, lemon crème fraîche and almond ice cream; Gariguette strawberries served alongside sheep’s yoghurt, lemon verbena and shortbread; and hot and cold Guanaja chocolate with milk ice cream.

12. For a Sharing Feast: Cafe Murano 

What: Angela Hartnett’s Cafe Murano will be serving an Italian Easter feast at both restaurants from Good Friday until Easter Monday (14th-17th April) made up of classic dishes from across Italy.

Eat and Drink: The two/three course set menu will include lamb roast with salsa rossa, Jersey royal, mint and fennel, traditionally eaten on Easter Sunday, and sea bream with baby gem and Sicilian caponata which will be served on Good Friday. St James’ Head Chef, Maurizio has also recreated his Mamma’s Pastiera Napoletana – a traditional Easter dessert made with ricotta and orange blossom.

13. For Charcoal-Grilled Meats: BabaBoom 

What: BabaBoom have gone all out for Easter with a seasonal feasting menu. An excellent ideas for refueling after a competitive Easter egg hunt, the Easter feaster celebrates the team’s favourite combinations of seasonal British ingredients, punchy Middle Eastern flavours and hearty portions of fresh cooked food, straight from the Mangal.

Eat and Drink: Tuck into sticky sumac wings and sweet potato hummus with preserved lemon; rotisserie salt marsh mechoui lamb shoulder; spring onion and butternut squash tabbouleh; homemade picked chillis; coal fired cauliflower; harissa labneh; chargrilled flatbreads; and fattoush salad. To finish, brownie and salted date caramel mess with whipped labneh and Mini Eggs.

14. For European Grub: German Gymnasium 

What: This year, D&D London restaurant German Gymnasium will be celebrating Easter with a menu of carefully curated dishes, a stunning Easter themed installation and a specially created cocktail, Le Chocolatier.

Eat and Drink: The special set Easter lunch menu designed by Executive Chef, Bjoern Wassmuth will allow everyone to select two or three courses, with the option of unlimited Prosecco for an additional £15. The menu will feature a range of German fare from smoked pork sausage salad, or calf liver dumplings as a starter, to chicken schnitzel or schupfnudeln with fresh truffle and spring greens as main dish options. For dessert, enjoy apple strudel, hazelnut praline or a fresh fruit compote.

15. For a Sunday Lunch: Veneta 

What: This Easter, Veneta in St James’s Market is inviting everyone to tuck into their recently launched Sunday Feasts menu including free-flowing drinks. Sunday lunches in Italy are a long, leisurely affair that are embraced by both families and friends, and Veneta’s Head Chef Jamie Thickett has reflected this in the new Sunday menu. 

Eat and Drink: The menu includes four decadent courses as well as unlimited Prosecco or Venetian red or white wine. ​Charcuterie, olives, homemade focaccia, and sardines in saor will be followed by Primi including kid goat ragu with fresh pappardelle, Secondi such as whole grilled bream with fennel, blood orange and agretti, and for dessert, saffron ice cream with rhubarb and blood orange.

16. For a Fish Supper: Trishna

What: Located in the heart of London’s Marylebone, Trishna specialises in coastal Indian cuisine and was awarded its first Michelin star in 2012. The restaurant also boasts an alfresco ambience due to its wide open doors opening onto the streets, the perfect setting to sit and enjoy Trishna’s Good Friday fish supper.

Eat and Drink: Trishna will be hosting a Good Friday fish supper with the John Dory Pollichatu, comprising of tellicherry pepper, shallots, curry leaves and coconut, served with pickled Bombay duck, raw banana thoran, meena manga curry and lemon rice.  There is also the newly launched Taste of Trishna Seafood Menu, where you can feast on six courses, including dishes such as Telicherry shrimp fry, a spicy plateful of Telicherry pepper, coconut, garlic and coconut mango chutney.

Price: The seafood menu is priced at £65 per person, with wine included it is £130. The Good Friday fish supper is £35 per person.

17. For All The Easter Dishes: Here East

What: Restaurants down at the Here East development in Hackney Wick are offering a wide variety of different brunch and dinner dishes for the Easter Weekend.

Eat and Drink: Down at Shane’s on Canalside, there’s rabbit two ways –  chow down on a juicy leg of rabbit this Easter, fried to perfection in Shane’s special seasoning and served with homemade coleslaw and Hackney’s finest samphire, foraged by Shane himself. Or opt for the nose to tail rabbit, a roasted leg fillet wrapped in wild garlic, served with confit rabbit and bacon, carrot puree and kale. Gotto is serving up an Easter special of hand-rolled pappardelle with braised lamb neck, fresh peas and chopped mint. Or get stuck in to The Breakfast Club’s naughty Crème Egg pancakes this Easter. Their famed stack of American pancakes have been revamped and smothered with a Creme Egg chocolate sauce, vanilla crème and topped with a whole Crème Egg.

18. For Middle Eastern Munch: The Good Egg

What: The Good Egg in Stoke Newington are going all out with their Easter eats. Available from Thursday (13th April) for five nights, the menu includes three courses, a welcome fizz and Easter treats.

Eat and Drink: The new seasonal feasting menu for Easter include house smoked lamb shoulder; Israeli aubergine manoushi with soft duck egg; and wild garlic and spring pickles. There will also be a host of little plates including smoked garlic pita and salt baked beets – all finishing up with their homemade orange blossom Basbousa semolina cake, with bespoke neapolitan ice cream from Poco Gelato, washed down with a honey and lavender fizz straight from their garden on arrival.

19. For Easter Dishes: Bocco di Lupo

What: Italian restaurant Bocca di Lupo will be open as normal hours during Easter weekend and have a beautiful crafted Easter menu, available from now until Easter Sunday (16th April).

Eat and Drink: Dishes include; baby chard, spinach, artichoke, sheep’s ricotta and quail egg pie; fried rabbit with thyme and lemon;  lamb braised in white wine and rosemary sauce thickened with egg yolks, lemon and pecorino; tortellini of squirrel and morels with wild garlic and broad beans; and fried beignet filled with creme patisserie for pudding.

20. For French Fare: Bon Vivant

What: Celebrate Easter à la française this year at Bon Vivant – Bloomsbury’s new neighbourhood hot spot. In true French style, this all-day bistro will be treating guests to choc-tails and a seasonal, Parisian-inspired Easter menu, created by Head Chef Oliver Kuehler.

Eat and Drink: Go all the way this Easter and get Shell Shocked with a shot of Baileys, Kahlúa and vodka served in an edible egg ‘cup’; or indulge and Get Laid with an elegant Martini glass filled with Nutella, Baileys, double cream and Frangelico. For those off the booze, choose the Chocolate Chick – a mix of coconut milk, vanilla ice cream and white chocolate syrup, topped with chocolate chips and coconut flakes. Afterwards, sit down to a three course set menu, featuring dishes including rabbit with pear ragout, roasted ham with all the trimmings, and chocolate torte with Champagne jelly.

Price: The choc-tails cost between £5-£7 and are available all weekend, whilst the exclusive Easter Sunday menu costs £39 for three courses, served between 6-10pm.
