There’s so many foodie treats on offer this time of year in London; new menus, new residences and special dishes. Hungry? Here’s 5 things you must try in London this week. Let’s get stuck in:

1. For a New Residency: Carousel 

What: Carousel, the revolving creative hub in Marylebone which plays host to a roster of renowned global chefs and artists, has just started its next wave of summer chef residencies. Currently in residence is travelling chef and sommelier duo, Mal Miers and Kate Christensen, who form Food & Wine Pop-Up.

Why: Their cooking is inspired by their surroundings, so expect beautiful balanced seasonal plates crafted by what is on offer currently in the British Isles while their wine is sourced from all over the globe, with a focus on natural and biodynamic wines as well as ciders. Kate, the sommelier, is incredibly knowledgeable and ensures that every guest understands each wine she is matching, while the food by Mal is not only beautiful, but also incredibly interesting.

2. For a New Pop-Up: Rubies in the Rubble x Grill My Cheese

What: Condiment kings Rubies in the Rubble and cheese lovers, Grill My Cheese, have teamed up to create a limited edition bite for two weeks only. Head on down to Leather Lane Market to get your hands on their new banana chilli cheese toastie.

Why: The toastie features Rubies in the Rubble mellow yellow Banana-Chilli ketchup, fresh red chillies, coriander, lime juice and Grill My Cheese’s notorious cheese blend – it’s a tropically inspired grilled cheese sarnie, with extra cheese.

3. For a New Happy Hour: Pizza Pilgrims 

What: Pizza Pilgrims have launched their all-new happy hour, Apé Hour, (in honour of their famous, signature ‘Ape’ pizza van) at their incredible West India Quay site. Make sure you check out their Pizza Playground with bocce ball, Mario Kart and Pinball.

Why: From 3pm-6pm everyday customers can enjoy Pizza Pilgrims finest Neapolitan pizzas, beer Moretti, refreshing cocktails and arancini for an absolute bargain. Grab a pizza for a fiver, arancini for £3, and beer for the price of six bananas from Pret (£3). Cocktails can also be bought for £5, and include the likes of DIY Americano with Martini Rosso, Campari, soda, ice and orange slice; Lola’s Cherry Cola with Disaronno, Prosecco, Chinotto and giace cherry; and the South Coast, a muddle of Pococello, gin, lemon juice, sugar and mint

4. For New Summer Events: Brixton Beach

What: Prepare for summer sizzlers at Brixton Beach’’s BBQ Thursdays, every week on London’’s hottest rooftop beach.  Everyone is invited to the beach every Thursday evening for Brixton Beach BBQ Takeovers, where London’’s BBQ specialists and chefs take over for one evening filled with mouthwatering food, creative cocktails, Latino beats and Salsa sessions.

Why: On Thursday (27th July), Brixton Beach welcomes Tim Anderson, Masterchef winner and founder of Japanese soul food sensation, Nanban, to host a Japanese inspired rooftop BBQ filled with bold flavours and foreign influences. For the evening Tim has curated a one off menu featuring a yakitori trio; chicken thigh and spring onion with a sesame glaze; chicken breast with pickled plum and shiso, or chicken and shiitake meatballs with yuzu glaze. Those after a meatier feast can tuck in to teriyaki ox cheek served with watercress and a sweet onion salad, also on the menu is Nanban’’s famous umami chips, with mushroom-seaweed salt and a miso-parmesan mayo.

5. For a New Menu: Le Chinois at Millennium Hotel London Knightsbridge 

 

 

 

 

 

 

What: Two AA Rosette Cantonese restaurant, Le Chinois at Millennium Hotel London Knightsbridge specialises in dim sum and regional Cantonese cuisine, and has recently added a whole host of brand new, mouthwatering dishes to its menu.

Why: Modern and classic dishes including baked Pacific black cod fillet with a Champagne sauce, Phoenix’s whisker prawns served with mango puree and wrapped in pastry and sautéed rib eye of Wagyu beef cooked in red wine and black pepper sauce; before moving on to a delicious matcha green tea and white chocolate brownie with condensed milk sauce for dessert.
