Nothing beats summer in London; pubs overflowing onto the pavements outside, running to the nearest bench or patch of grass to enjoy your lunch in the sun, and, of course, new summer menus. Restaurants in capital are adjusting to the warmer climes by rejigging their menus to offer fresh and healthy fare. Here’s where to get your foodie fix in London this week:

1. For a New Summer Menu: STK

What: STK London has gone all summery on us with their new menu – think seasonal seafood, grilled meats, and fresh and hearty salad options, alongside its extensive USDA and British steak selection. Light new sharing dishes and starters have been added to the menu as well as vibrant mains packed full of seasonal flavour.

Why: The extensive and vibrant mains menu features seafood dishes like the locally sourced Cornish stone bass with green peas, balsamic cipollini onions, pancetta and sea herbs, and the clams and mussels fregola. Other dishes include supersized salads like the Caesar salad with southern fried chicken popcorn, and meat dishes such as maple roasted Iberico pork chop, and herb crusted lamb cutlets with heirloom carrots and dukka spices. Of course, it wouldn’t be a true STK experience without trying out STK’s impressive steak selection. Serving both high-quality cuts of USDA grain fed and British beef (derived from younger beef to produce the highest degree of fat marbling), STK’s steak options include: a classic fillet, sirloin, T-bone and New York strip.

2. For a New Takeover: Up in My Grill x Slider Bar

What: Burgers, burgers and more burgers is what’s flipping down at The Slider Bar at Hawker House. Throughout July streetfood rising star Up In My Grill has moved in to the Slider Bar’s gaff for a month-long takeover, showcasing a selection of mini burgers all made with meat from the same sides of Yorkshire-sourced rare-breed beef as their renowned steaks.

Why: Up In My Grill’s Slider Bar takeover is a mecca of bite-sized beef burgers, ranging from a classic American cheeseburger with gherkins and burger sauce, to a spicy smoked bacon burger with jalapeño relish and aioli, and a unique British roast-inspired beef gravy burger with Ogleshield cheese and mustard mayo. Up In My Grill’s new Slider Bar takeover at Hawker House follows the recent introduction of their steak plate, which combines prime cuts and interesting lesser-known cuts and constantly changes depending on what’s ready straight from the grill at any time, and will take the independent trader’s “whole cow steaks” concept to the exciting next level.

3. For New Summer Dishes: Foley’s

What: Foley’s can do no wrong in our eyes. This Fitzrovia gem is the perfect haven for post-work cocktails, and to feast on their modern world sharing plates. Manning the kitchen is head chef Mitz Vora, the breakthrough talent on the London restaurant scene, who has again pushed his professional boundaries to create the ultimate summer menu.

Why: The new summer menu has been carefully separated into five sections each drawing together on the best of Foley’s flavours. Taken from their most recent menu is the roti taco; the roti is a take on the classic corn tortilla, made from rice flour, grilled over charcoal, and served stuffed with a range of ingredients. Foley’s have also created a new ‘from the sea’ section compiling a trio of options, like the fresh hake wrapped in a large banana leaf and charcoal roasted, served in tom kha, with fennel, shiitake, chicken and xo, and the freshly grilled octopus – lightly covered in black sesame mayo, served on spicy pork mince, bok choy and house made Sriracha. If you’re looking for something more substantial, then get your chops around the rib fillet steak, served with smoked tomato, puréed avocado lime, extra thin and extra crispy sweet potato crisps, leeks and black bean, or devour the sticky pork, paired with tamarind BBQ, crispy pig’s ears, swede vermicelli, topped with buttermilk and toasted cashews.

4. For a New Barbecue Menu: Sakagura

What: No need for the Tesco Express disposable barbecue run, people. Sakagura have got you covered with their new Yakiniku barbecue menu – perfect for dining al fresco in their courtyard in the buzzing heart of Heddon Street. The concept is simple: grill the meat to your liking on the “shichirin” barbecue, before getting condiment heavy with all the Japanese dipping sauces.

Why: Boasting a selection of rich, satisfying meats, feast on Japanese and Australian wagyu sirloins, pork belly, prime USDA short rib and Goosnargh chicken thigh. Those searching for a lighter option can choose fresh courgette, asparagus or eryngii mushroom, as well as steamed white koshihikari rice, tofu and wakame miso soup or wafu salad. Round things off sweetly by indulging in Sakagura’s famous ice cream flavours: sake kasu vanilla, dark chocolate wasabi and soy sauce caramel.

5. For a New Shabbat Dinner: Monty’s Deli

What: Monty’s Deli is the place to be on Friday evenings – the restaurant have just launched their family-style Shabbat Dinner featuring traditional recipes with a modern Monty’s twist. The new Shabbat Dinner is a chance for friends and family to come together to exchange stories and kibbitz at the end of a working week.

Why: The Shabbat dinner is served to share. To start – house baked challah rolls and chopped liver, and a taste of Palwins no.10 Kiddush wine. This will be followed by a tureen of chicken soup with kneidlach and lokshen. Then, taking centre stage, a roasted whole chicken to be carved by the chosen guest, with golden roast potatoes, spring greens, gravy and Monty’s house chrain, a horseradish and beetroot condiment. For dessert, Lokshen pudding, a sweet baked noodle dish that is rarely seen outside of the family table. This can all be washed down with Monty’s house wine and their L’chaim drinks menu – a selection of short drinks, from traditional Slivovitz plum brandy, to fine whiskies.
